High School- Qualyliea' Leaders Wz'!Zz'ngQ2 Dedicate Selves to Youth HE SUM of wisdom is that time is never lost that is devoted to work. If this maxim is believable, then Troy's administrators rarely lose time, for their hours are spent in constant application to their all-encompassing job of operating a big school. Directing everything from scholarships to assemblies, from special curricula to special bulletins, the quintet dem! onstrates perpetual motion. The responsibilities of enrolling over 2,200 students fall on the shoulders of Mr. Burnette, new director of instruction. As the guidance counselor, Mr. Meyers deals with personal problems, career planning, and setting up test- ing programs. Along with him in this work are Miss Aley and Mr. Bodenhausen, as student deans. Troy's many awards and scholarship ratings have long been due to the expert direc- tion of Miss Pringle whose responsibility it is that the college-bound are qualified. Under the sympathetic and able co-ordinaa tion of Principal XVeaver, these five administra- tors work for the entire nody of students to see that- they have a well-rounded course of study, capable teachers to direct it, extra-curricular activities that please and develop them socially, and that all of it is done in an atmosphere-of mental growth. Faculty- Prelbare Students JW LW? ITH PATIENCE, good humor, and understand- ing, the faculty of THS endures the trials, tribula- tions, joys, and rewards of the students, thereby earn- ing the respect of all. Because our teachers are be- fore us every school day for nine months, we often take them for granted, yet these are the people who establish our fundamental desires to learn, therefore molding our lives. Throwing open the doors of Troy last September, we welcomed eight new faculty members. Through departmental interests and through their social groups-The Guild, The Majority Club, and The Men's Club-they have all become closely associated with each other. Lately, a great emphasis has been placed on the advantages of highly trained teachers, all of Troy's have Masters degrees or are taking graduate study. Five have acquired advanced degrees in the past year. This initiative, added to their regular profes- 149' A : U W X -R. fa,-f ' H-up -Yigwmfi., M yszferies, Adventures sional participation, taken on the part of the THS faculty, shows their desire to improve themselves, thus improving us. Contrary to popular belief, teachers are human too. They have their ups and downs the same as everyone: ups such as the earning of advanced degrees, summer vacations, trips to Europe, new homes, new cars, and new babies, downs such as Mr. Neaderhiser's broken leg, disappointments in students, and the ever-present parental problems with which we are all familiar in our own homes. The students of TI-IS have grown closer to their teachers this year, not only through their classes, but through many extra-curricular activities. They see them as sponsors of organizations, as counselors, and as personal friends. It is for all these things, as well as for countless intangibles, that the students of Topeka High School offer bouquets of gratitude to the wonderful faculty of Troy. WVILEY E. ALBERG, M.S.
