Language Arts Goal DVENTURES IN l,E.XRNlNC was the theme of those enrolled in the various courses offered in the Language Arts. All Stll- dents completed two years of English, the col- lege-bound at least three. In a constant effort to provide more extensive backgrounds, some found speech training, play production, and public speaking beneficial in mastering self expression. For those liking news writing there were journalism and staff positions on the newspaper and yearbook. Not forgetting the importance of grammar, constant emphasis on composition, punctuation, and spelling continued to help perfect everyday as well as literary writing. Comprehensive tests were given throughout the year to measure standings and progress while contests in poetry and essay, offered by civici and national organi- nations, were available for those with a flair for creative writing and research. ,X new program gave students who required additional training in reading much-needed help, and once again the college freshman course in prose was offered to those who wished to step out and forge ahead.
