Students often wondered what went on in a faculty meeting. Now we know - or do we? ilazcwkzmgg 2929 ,4WQzuh2gae cgf ZQQE! fkmuuea Faculty Encourages Maturing Minds ln the shadow of the tower, the faculty served as the foun- dation for learning for all students. Through them, we have re- ceived much training and instruction in various fields and sub- iects. They have always been willing and eager to lend helping hands, whether by creating a student's interest in new areas, aiding us in a time when we needed advice, or initiating new activities which would benefit all who participated in them. When we first came to THS, the teachers were only names on a card, or people who stood in the front of classes lecturing to us. As we came to know them, we realized that they were really our friends, and were ever willing to listen to our ideas and treat us as individuals. Of course the faculty did not spend all their time with their students. They had their own meetings, too. Lengthy discussion was held this year on the tying together of English and social study classes, and other pertinent questions were talked over in open hour conferences. There were two picnics, one in the fall intiating new teachers at Topeka High, and the other in the spring honoring those faculty members who were retiring. Such affairs were sponsored by the Faculty Guild, and were headed by Mrs. Esther Kingman as president. Then there were the things which happened in the private lives of the faculty, things which the students did not always know. Some of these incidents were pleasant, like the trip to Europe taken by Miss Hopkins, the higher degrees earned with college advancement, Mr. Henson's promotion to the position of Director of Curriculum and Mr. Bodenhausens to Dean of Men. l2 Others like Mr. Fink's automobile accident, were unfortunate. His return in February, like Miss Swenson's return after a year of illness, made THS more homelike for us all. We cannot express our thanks to our teachers in words, we can only hope that our deeds in the future may fulfill the hope they have placed in us. We who are graduating will realize more in the years to come how much they have taught us, not only about their subjects, but also about ourselves and others. Much of whattwe are and ever will be, we owe to the guid- ance of our faculty - the teachers at Topeka High. T ,,g 5 fi X fl 'lwf r f fi lf' i , ' Qi aff, f' X fer! i
