roy c osos victorious season in FCQTBALL Quick opening plays of the T formation set the keynote of the Trojan offense this year. With speedsters Dean Boyles and Rollo Gurss toting the ball and a light, fast charging line up front, Trojan fans never lacked action, whether in home games at the Moore Bowl or on out-of-town fields. ' On the power side Troy had driving Dick Lyle operating from the fullback slot, and a pair of huge tackles in Sophomore Darrell Hill and Senior George Kisner, both tipping the beam over 200 pounds. Consistent ground gainer for the gridsters was the fundamental line buck with the half- back going over guard. The only really intri- cate play was the crossblocking by the line- men against heavier opponents. Relying mostly on fundamentals, the '48 Trojan gridders gave the enthusiastic crowds plenty to yell about. During the half, gaily colored balloons and enthusiastic cheers replaced the rumors when the football players' choice was revealed as Bonnie Frommer, Homecoming Queen, and attendants as Evelyn Stahl and Gerry Dykes. The honored girls were escorted to the throne, especially made for the event, by Carl Seufert, President of the Student Congress, Neil McNeill, Speaker of the House of Repre- sentatives, and Bob Bradstreet, Vice-President of the Student Congress. They were given the traditional chrysanthemums, and then were escorted to a reserved box in the bleachers where they viewed the rest of the game. Our opponent for the evening, lVyandotte High School, was invited to attend the varsity following the game. V. K fs 35 a S5 Troj an griclders With one of the lightest and least experienced teams in rea- cent years to work with, Varsity Coaches Bob Briggs and Mel Seelye molded a grid aggregation which ranked fifth best among all AA schools in Kansas. Trojans started slow, losing their first two, but after trouncing Emporia 19-0 went on to win six of the next seven games to bring their record up to seven won and three lost for the season. The Hutchinson Salt Hawk's double wing offense proved too much for the Trojans their first time out as Topeka went down 14-12 at Hutchinson. Dean Boyles salvaged some glory for Troy by taking a kickoff on his own ten yard line and racing the remaining 90 yards for a touchdown. Finally breaking into the win column, Topeka romped over Emporia 19-0, and then traveled to Kansas City to trounce Ward High 20-O. stx Y 0 Qgf.
