Under the leadership of Richard Douglas, Presi- dent, Mary Washington, Vice-President, Ethel Chiles, Senior Representative, Amos Howard, Junior Representative, and Ernest Douglas, Sophomore Repre- sentative,Qthe council has discussed and acted on problems facing them. They started out the first part of the year in full swing, sponsoring two var- sities, and holding several meetings with the student body. ounci s compose CQNGRESS An integral part of Topeka High's student government is the Representative Council. Guided by Miss Lois Fergus, Faculty Sponsor, and headed by Speaker Neil McNeill, this Council functions in a similar manner to the United States House of Representatives. Composed of 66 homeroom representatives, the Council meets once a month. At their Hrst meeting, members elected Neil, speaker, Dean Smith, vice-speakerg Nancy Taggart, Secretary, and- Geraldine Dykes, treasurer. Since legislation concerning money originates in the House of Representatives, similarly the Representative Council Was responsible for the sale of Activity tickets, of which a total Hugh Greer Election Commissioner Row 1. john Long, Miss Lois Fergus QSponsorj, Carol Lee Shaw, Norma jean Bledsoe, Gerry Dykes,, jane Romig, Nancy Taggart, janet Adams, Neil McNeill Row 2. Ratifying bills passed by the Student Council is another duty of the Representative Council. Legislation concerning school problems is discussed and voted on. ervice groups ma e up SE IOR GIRLS' COUNCILS As an all-around service group, Senior Girls' Council has put forth its time to make successful such activities as the Sophomore Induction, the Sophomore Tea, and Open House. Chosen for their leadership and scholastic ability, the 34 girls are under the guidance and sponsorship of Miss Annau bel Pringle, Dean of Girls. Throughout the year, they serve as hostesses, guides and aides for various events. Sugar 'n Spice meetings-all-girl gatherings-attract crowds with topics on The Ideal Boy and The Ideal Girl. Senior Girls' Council members are on hand for the Vesper Tea at graduation time, the All-Girl Party, and Col- lege Day activities. Working along with the council is the Senior Girls' Ad- visory Council, chosen also for leadership. Composed of I6 members, these girls Worked more individually, but each council has set forth' thervarious activities as its responsibil- ities and has won honor for its service.
