V, Not within the proscenium arch alone may dramaturgy be studied. In classroom settings or against the magnificent backdrop of Spring Proms-through the light-hearted chatter of the cafeteria or the sus- pense of the basketball court-are played all the comedy and the tragedy of the theatre. Hidden beneath the whimsical masks of adolescence, the dramatis personae of a hundred tangled plots assume their roles. A Sopho- more burlesques his entrance. A junior glories in his first big part. A Senior rises to stardom and Student Congress. A war veteran plays a courageous role, struggling with rhetoric and his new maturity. The 1948 SUNFLOWER reviews these performances, from the Sophomore induction to the triumphal march down the steps of Moore Bowl, and pronounces them well done. One week later the Redmen from Wich- ita North dropped the home crew 14-7. From then on, Topeka was unbeatable. Before a Dad's Night crowd Troy submerged Haskell 26-0, grabbed a 7-6 win over WVichita East in the Home- coming game, gave Nlfyandotte a 13-6 beating and ran away with a 19-0 victory over Emporia in the final game. Barnett's boys rank among the top tennis teams of Kansas. YVith Gene Echols, state singles champ, and Charles Crawford defending their titles in the doubles as well as singles, and Richard Hadley, a sophomore rapidly progressing in the world of sports, the Trojan squad swept through another victorious season. Lack of a pool at Topeka High seriously handicapped the Trojan SWIMMING TEAM this season, but despite a shortage of practice time, Coach Charles Mills led the tankmen to another fI1ll season. The swimmers partici- pated in dual meets with YVyandotte, WVichita East, Wichita North, Northeast High of Kansas City, and Coffey- ville, as well as the state meet. WRESTLING: Row 1: Peddy, Fruits. New courses in professional training, such as the Bachelor of Business Adminis- tration, enable students to prepare effectively for the demands of a new world. The College of Liberal Arts is accredited by the Kansas State Board of Educa- tion, the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and the Association of American Universities. Washburn alumnae are admitted to mem- bership in the American Association of University Women. The School of Law is a member of the Association of American Law Schools, and conforms to its standards of excellence in library, teaching staff, and scholarship. The school is also on the list approved by the American Bar Association. Its loca- tion in the capital city provides students opportunity to attend and observe thc procedure of a variety of courts, and the chance to meet and become acquainted with the best minds of the legal profession to be found in Kansas. An enlarged faculty keeps Washburn classes small and individual contacts pos- sible. A very important part of education takes place through an informal inter- mingling of students and faculty in a democratic atmosphere. The new Student Building will contribute greatly to a finer student spirit on the Washburn campus. Summer session announcements and the University catalog will be supplied upon request.
