SNO0P Much as we hate to leave you, this is our last chance to make cracks. We Want to thank those that did things which give columnists something to rave about. li people think they have been abused in the Vlforld, Wait till they read this. Hectic and heartening has been this, the thirty- seventh year of the twen- tieth century, in T o p e k a high. No one would accuse it of being dull. Scarlets- 0'Dutton and 0,Hurd have kept us busy with some- thing to write about. Walker and Dougherty were also rans in the college boy sweepstakes. Surprise romance of the year was the Stevens-lVlcFarland ditty. The proctor system kept re- formers busy. Chairman Gray gallantly stepped aside for awhile and played with his studies. flfiy special requestj . Emmy Ghost unleashed the fury of his typewriteris old English accent upon the rolling stone. Life on the farm fnight lifej, held an unaccount- able interest for the gad- abouts of the senior class. A lumber company's heir grabbed off a first mortgage on the All-School p arty 104 SHIITS queen. Lewis began count- ing the miles to Denver and Mac Gray conditioned his dogs for a walk to Dodge City. The three stock jokes of as- sembly speaker this year were: First, one about the students, de- sire to rush back to class, sec- ond, one about putting the first grade on the first row, and al- ways one which inferred that no one was smart enough to finish the school in the allotted three years. Break-up of the nearly two-year-old romance of Burrow-Fink caused many sighs--of relief and pity. The World editor got his dandruff in all uproar over the uclosed shop varsities and had to print his column for the week on asbestos. Friday night dates came a lot cheaper after the Old Mill was burned. A law pro- hibiting public park petting caused little disturbance. The accomplishment ofthe year was the breakup of the long time regime of the snolm clubs and their transformation into a democratic pep organization for organizing pep. The senior class gave up the idea of a party when even one-tenth of the class was reluctant in promising attendance. Great battle waged for and on gum-chewers. We championed a lost c a u s e there, as we were out- weighted by authority. The issue of the new maga- zine 'clsifev was responsible for a 50 per cent increase in loafing in the Journalism department. Anti-tardiness campaign was launched. Teachers stood in the halls between classes to insure speed in laggards. Water' guns were the pet peeve of all squirted and the delight of all the little squirts. Byron Carlson collected more nicknames than any ten people in the senior class. We almost considered our column a success when we were threatened with everything from arsenic in our grub to bombs in our pants. Shakespeare's been kicked around all year so we might as well end up with a bit of his wis- dom. HParting is such sweet sor- row -- but we probable wonit see you tomorrow-good luck, suckers.
