The helpers take a break. 52 The Big Night' U16 Mississippi After a delicious supper at the Carousel Room in Spring Valley, the Seniors of '62 attended a prom, with the theme, Moonlight on the Mississippi. One end of the new gym was decorated as a huge red and white paddle-wheel boat containing tables and chairs where the spectators could talk, watch the dancers, and sample the delicious punch and cookies. The dance floor was surrounded by blue crepe- paper ribbons. The other end of the gym held the Stanley Roberts Band. A multi-colored spotlight kept the musicians in the limelight. The doorway was hung with crepe ribbons which were drawn aside to form an entry-way OHIO the ma- gical Mississippi wharf. I could have danced all night! Dawes The '62-'63 dance s have provided us with many precious memories. Our school has been very busy putting on many dances including The Homecoming Dance and The March of Dimes Benefit Dance spon- sored by our student council. The seniors sponsored the successful Christmas Ball and the Halloween Dance, The juniors, of course, sponsored the big d ano e of the year, the Prom . The sophomores held a successful sock hop after the Hopkins bas- ketball game, and the freshman held a square dance on February 23. These dances represent many hours of preparation and enjoyment for the school and community. Dancing Royalty Let's twist again! rrr p in Queen Barbara Where are the boys? Did you win anything, kids? TONICA NEWS May 23, 2263 Page 1 NOTED ARCHAEOLOGIST FINDS RECORDS OF CLASS OF 1963 It was revealed today that the marvelous archaeologist, Charlie F. Mstzpqrstuvbfmn, had uncovered an old and tattered diary of one of the members of the graduating class of 1963. It seems that he kept a record of every classmate's life. This brilliant person who kept the diary was JAMES BERNARDONI. We are greatly indebted to him for giving us this chance to find out what has happened to our old citizens of Tonica. These entries were dated January 6, 2020: MARCIA FOLTY, after leaving good old THS, went on to make a name for herself. She became well-known as Marve- lous Marcy, best shot in the U. S. One afternoon, while practicing her trap shooting, she pointed the gun the wrong way and shot herself. ANNA DUFFELL became a famous private detective. She was a fantastic private eye. Her secret weapon was her nose. She could smell criminals. One day she forgot her glasses and tripped and fell flat on her face, smashing in her notorious nose. She retired there and lived a quiet life. PAUL COFOID used his great, unusual mental ability in every job he held after graduation. His first job was as an apple packer. From here he moved on up the ladder in his business. He held such important positions as: avocado packer. cherry packer, citrus fruit packer. egg packer. pear packer. and plum packer. At present he is unemployed and looking for another job in which he can use his great mental capacity. RALPH COLE's claim to fame was in bakery goods. He decorated the holes in glazed doughnuts. lt finally came to the point where he just couldn't continue--after a while, he actually saw the holes he was decorating! Tsk! Tsk! What a pity! JAMES GOODBRED was a great scientist. He developed and patented the invention: Goody's Great Eye-brow Grower. One afternoon in his lab while he was mixing up the secret formula, he added too much growing powder and was lost in the brush of all the eye-brows. No one has either seen or heard of him since. LARRY PHELP's chief interest during high school was art. After graduation, he moved to Greenwich Village and became one of the struggling artists fyou know, a beatnikj. He was one of those misunderstood people. He finally became so depressed that he drowned himself in a bucket of red paint. MYRLE SARVER was a glass blower by profession. He lost his selfecontrol one bleak afternoon, however, and blew a glass around himself. Reports from various sources say he was imprisoned there for 40 years before he died of suffocation. Wow! What lungs. n'est-cepas? MARIAN OLSON was a famous masseuse. She was very popular among her men patients because of her unusual technique. One day one of the infuriated wives came to her parlor and gave Marian a massage. She was crippled for the rest of her life. JIM EARLES met with a tragic end. The day after his third re-election as waterboy for a South American rebel force, he dropped the water bucket on his big toe and died of spinal injuries. PAULA WALGENBACH became the first nurse on horseback of the Middle West. She was the victim of a broken heart when someone hid her Junior Nurses' Kit and ate all her candy pills. JON BARNHART was destined to become a world-famous home economics instructor until he got hopelessly entwined in his favorite spaghetti recipe. BOB CLARK won his claim to fame as a lecturer on baby care. Frustrated and distraught over his heavy schedule on his round-the-world lecture tour, he unexpectedly went mad and hung himself with a diaper. JIM LOCK ended up teaching girls' P.E. in an exclusive girls' school out East. He's still out there--he's kept in wonder- ful shape by all the exercise he gets. RUTH HILTABRAND rose to great heights in the world of business. She gained the high position of editor of the WALL- STREET JOURNAL. Shortly afterward, the JOURNAL folded up, however, and Ruth was destined to spend the rest of her days selling ties on street corners. WAYNE LANCE was a star in the world of sports. He was world famous for his amazing track records. Poor Wayne lost out, though, for he broke his leg and they had to shoot him. DAVE BECKER showed great talent as an ingenious inve ntor with his invention, instant water. Drop two tablets into a small s aucepan , add two cups of cold tap water, and bring to a boil, stirring slowly. After extensive research, Dave also came up with an instant toothpaste. Drop a capsule in the mouth and in a moment it is filled with toothpaste. Unfortunately, Dave took too many, and he is still sudsing and sudsing and sudsing. BARBARA MERTEL finally outgrew her nickname of Shorty. Barb regretted it, though. She was up so high that she got buzzed by a low-flying jet and was the first bald member of the Class of '63. MIKE PATTERSON won great acclaim as a top producer and director. He followed in the footsteps ofAlfred Hitchcock. Each of his productions surpassed the one before in terror and horror. Mike's fabulous luck eventually ran out. While he was on the set one day, one of his trained monsters escaped. Mike did not. GARY ROWE studied mechanics after he left TCHS, but he dropped this field in favor of another--ballet. Gary admired the grace and beauty of ballet so much that he worked and practiced until he was a great dancer. Gary's career only lasted twenty years. One day he lost control when he went into one of his amazing spins and zoomed up, up, up, --to float forever in endless space. DALE VOGEL surprised everyone when he graduated from a school of beauty culture. Everyone flocked to his shop to have him style her hair. He was in such demand that he had to hire a whole crew of assistants. Dale remained a leader in his pro- fession until his retirement in 2010. Shortly afterward, he passed away, but his legend will live for many years. ELLEN KEITH became a famous stock car racer. She broke all previous records in her dangerous, daring races. Time and time again, she astonished the audiences with her nerves of steel. Ellen never had a crack-up all during her racing career. She still died fairly young, though, when her little sports car was smashed by a runaway tricycle. BILL GINGERICH was the only member of the Class of '63 to ever be invited to the White House. His trained caterpillars, the talents of the twentieth century, delighted the President and First Lady. Bill happily managed the Cute Cats for quite a few years. After they were firmly established stars, however, the Cats fired Bill and hired a new manager. Bill was found hanging from a curtain rod by a piece of Kleenex the next day.
