III I Dililiililififflfifiifiif SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY was walking one day nn the ram soon after gradua tnon when I heard someone sabbnng I looked about and saw Marne stttnng on the school steps I asked her wha was wrong Between sobs she answered I dont know what I wnll do now that I am out of school I lnked nt so well there especially my Home Economncs class There was only one solutnon tha I could thnnk of Tha was to take her on the trnp over tne ranftbow wnth me as soon as the rann stopped fallnng To find our happnness nn the pot of gold Marne and I obtanned reservatnons on the flynng saucer We had been nn the anr only a few mnnutes and we were watchnng the beautnful colors of the rannbow speed by w en I decided I wanted a better vnew so I walked toward the front of the flying saucer I overheard Joyce Braun explann sarcastucally I thnnk that whoever sees the gold first should have nt She was well equnpped wnth struments for detectnng gold and a panr of field glasses You see Joyces fiance Mortnmer the mnllnonanre deserted her at the altar and she dndnt know where her next penny was comnng from As I strolled to the back of the flying saucer I found Ann separated from the rest of the group She was nearly In hysterncs wnth laughter and she was a snght glasses way down over her nose and hanr nn her eyes When I wrong she sand Gopher fDnckJ was down on hns knees beggnng Ethelbert Smnth to marry hnm Ethelbert slapped nm and he went flying untnl he hnt the other snde of e flynng saucer and was knocked unconscnous I left Ann to laugh to herself As I was walknng back to my seat I suddenly fell flat on my face As I looked I saw you guessed nt Chuck peeknng from under his en gallon hat He sand to me Sorry Pardner I need a o of room I asked hnm what he was donng on the trnp and he sand I had to get away from all the cow gnrls on my ranch out nn Texas whnch my Uncle Scrooge left me when he dned I dndnt think thns sounded Ike Chuck so I gave hnm a book on How to Herd Cowgnrls and left hnm as he read nt As we flew on we saw someone wavnng a long rod As we came close we saw nt was Art wavnng a tishlng pole trynng to catch rannbow trout When we asked hnm how many he had caught he sand he had caught some starfish but the rannbow trout got away I advnsed hnm there were other fish nn the sea and asked hnm to come along with us to find the pot of gold over the rannbow So as we were gettnng nnto the flynng saucer w notnced a small store On the front was a sngn readnng Sunbearns for Sale Buy your dnsposntnon here By thns tnme most of us needed to refresh our dnsposntnons we walked into the small shop and whom should we see behind the counter but Jean dnsplaynng a sunfilled smnle We bought some sunbeams and asked her to come along on the trnp with us to look for the pot of gold and happiness but from the look on her face she dndn t need much more happnness She called her manager and asked nf she could go and as he stepped out we were amazed to see Dnck Corrngan After talknng to hnm awhnle he told u of hns plans for movnng to the moon and startnng a cheese factory I told hnm to come along wnth us and not have to work agann As we proceeded on our way we looked down from the flynng saucer and saw Sally standnng nn a field of yellow flowers We asked her what she was looknng for an she replied am looknng for a dansy She had found buttercups dandelnons and every other flower but she couldn t find a dansy We advnsed her that maybe the knnd of Dansy she was looknng for dndnt grow nn a fied Going on we saw nn the dnstance two Hgures hurtlnng back and forth through space When we came nearer we recognnzed the figures as Ednth and Esther When we asked them what they were donng they told us they were also sand that when they got tnred of Starzan they played Long Star Grazer and Moonalong Cassndy They accepted our nnvntatnon t n n and at Ist we started on our non stop fight to the end of the rannbow As we flew along we could see nn the dnstance a dazzlnng lnght As we drew closer we saw that nt was the pot of gold We landed and all of us leaped from the flynng saucer As we came upon the pot of gold nt began to tremble and shake frnghtennng us so that we drew back qunte alarmed When we saw somethlng arnse from the pot of gold we all fled to the flying saucer and locked the doors We watched from the wnndows and who should be steppnng out of the pot of gold but Mr Clark' Whnle we fumbled wnth the door Mr Clark carrned the pot of gold over to the helnocopter As we came to the dwelling of Ednth and Esther we saw that Mr Clark was there wantnng for us We alnghted from the plane and went to Mr Clark who told us that he had taken the gold to teach us a lesson for benng so greedy He also sand that he thought we had learned our lesson and gave us each a generous share of the gold and everlastnng happnness which we hoped to offer others as we went on our way through lnfe 2288285850Difiilibfiiiiiflliiib J The French Horn Quartet received a First Division rating, Our saxophone soloist, Eleanor Salisbury, received a First Division rating. Six remaining ensembles and soloists received Second Division ratings. The Tonica Band has seen many changes this past year. One of the most im- portant, as it affects us at the high school, is a different band room. We now have the room that formerly was the Ag room and this is much better suited to our needs. Our band is expanding. In addition to the advanced band there is a Begin- ner s Band the members of which are not quite ready to enter the advanced band and also a grade school band which is preparing for its 'first contest. Fourth grade students make up a Tonette Band which is a good foundation for future band work The Band Board is active in formulating the band policy They have also written a constitution which has been approved and adopted by the band Our long awaited bass clarinet finally was purchased and one of the saxophonists took over She is doing a fine lob and has added much to the band At the time of this writing the school is fairly resounding with quartets ensembles and solos practicing for the District Contest in Streator on March 31 We hope tha this year we will see more honors and words of praise brought to our school by a fine band and we truly appreciate the kindness and consideration shown to us by our faculty the board of education and our town CHORUS For the first time in a number of years our high school an now boast of ha Jing a mixed chorus We made our first public appearance at our Christmas Concert which was very favorably received We have a girls sextet and a girls quartet preparing for contest work in addition to several solo number in vocal work Mr Arthur Halcyon and Arlene and ideas from there that have proven to be of much value to us T , . . are now members of the VanderCook Glee Club, They have brought new methods 3UCD'UDUlflUl,'ffl'2D'flDffffillll I I 35559999U,UD5U,'U'lD'fl,'U'UU'f,SFUSD!
