z . L OC' 'We are bound to secrecy' was the staunch reply of a 1959 Cedar Chest member when interrogated by a curious dedicated seeker. Yet curiosity was not halted that quickly, and while the curious one tried to probe even deeper, a staff member was often heard to give the terse retort, How can we possibly expect another to keep our secret if we cannot keep it our- selves? The staff was composed of eleven members. Early last fall, these students began to plan the yearbook amid quiet discussions, friendly disagreements, and well-organized arguments. By the end of last year the plan of the book was well on its way toward completion. Leslie Kaye was chairman of the committee which wrote the blurbs, the short b.ographies appearing be- neath each senior's pic- tire. Kathy Elliot worked as tgirl Friday' in assist- ing with Cattales, senior pictures, and several pic- ture schedules, as well as directing Wrong -Way Schuld. 'Q Elayne Genishi, the artist, was the only junior on the staff. When she finished the art work on this year's book, she began planning next yea.r'S art work. ei., 1 D' I Alice Jones chairmaned the senior-picture committee, helped write captions, and heard all worries and com- plaints. Emmy Versnel also rushed madly around with the pho- tographer directing a pic- ture schedule, helped plan pages, and wrote captions.

When September finally arrived, the staff began working once again. Everyone was extremely busy writing 'cattales, blurbs, captions, and trying to pry those 'precious snaps from the bulging walletsoftheir disheartened owners. Other jobs included planning and completing the aft work done by the only junior staff member, helping the photographer with picture schedules, and typing of all copy, a tremendous job in itself. As all good things must come to an end, the date finally arrived when the 1959 Cedar Chest was sent to be printed. The eleven, very tired but very relieved, staff members replied that they wouldn't mind doing it over again the next time they live. Beverly Barth was in charge of one picture sche- dule and workedon the sen- ior-picture committee and the Cattales committee. 4 rpg MI George Schuld, the only 5 ' male on this year's staff, ' g W ,I worked on allpicture sche- 4 , dules a.nd was 'barbacued' 1 'Q ,Q L for his dependability. His r 'shmile' sign encouraged 1 large groups to put their if best face forward. Y, L f. Myra Schwartz and Gloria Bauer were the typists. They soaked their sore fin- gers during the Christmas vacation. Helen Blumenthal headed the Cattales com mi t t e e, assisted the blurbs com- mittee, and also helped with the senior pictures. Barbara 'Speedy' Crane's prima.ry responsibilities were the senior - person- alities election andthe col- lection of snapshots.
