THE JUNIOR BIRDMEN L The Aviation Club was organized three years ago by the pupils under the super- vislon of Mr. Blair who until three months ago acted as faculty advisor. When the club was organized, a law was passed forcing each member to build an airplane model within two weeks of their entrance in the club. This act was passed to weed out those who would not work. The club was form-ed to further the knowledge of the members in designing and building model aircraft. At present the club has an airplane which is partly built. This plane is to be powered with a small 1X5 horsepower gasoline motor, and the members of the club expect to have it finished and ready to ily by the spring of 1938. So far the club has a very small membership. This year the members made a trip to Lakewood to explain the functions of their club to the members. of that high school. On this trip much interest was displayed by the members of the Lakewood student body. Mr. Reigle is now faculty adviser of the group. Fzftytwo I THE CEDAR CHEST

THE SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club has been oreaniz d for the purpose of having discussions on the problems, new advances, and some older phases of science. The Science Club has two rules which were made at tl'-c first meting, and these are that the members must be taking science at the time of the membership, and each member must make one speech and lead one discussion. Thes rules were passed for the purpose of keeping out lhost pupils who do not like to wcrk. At tr, time of this writing thi re are no officers in th, club exccpz Mr. Clint, who is faculty advisor and Jacob Pyenson secretary. This year. a member makes his speech which has been announced before and after the short speech he is open to any questions on the subject. During this time there usually is a discussion which is carried on by the members and centers around the topic of the speech. This club has met every Wednesday that it has been possible. At one of the meetings during November if was decided to make '1 Htesla coil. This coil is a piece of e.ectrica1 apparatus which throws a spark about six or seven inches long. Even thou 'h the spark is a high voltage one a person may allow it to pass through his body without being injured. In May this coil was about half finished and the members hoped to have it finished by th- end of the year. The members also sponsored a trip of forty pupils to Philadelphia to visit the Franklin Museum and Fels Planetarium.
