CEDAR CHEST r 'ik The 1937 Cedar Chest was edited by Mirth Tufts with Miss Davidson as faculty adviser. Unlike former years when the Cedar Chest has been chiefly a literary magazine it is now a year book. This means that it contains many pictures of class club and athletic activities with short write-ups along with the senior Will prophecy and slams. There was much discussion as to whether We should have a bound book this year. Finally it was decided to improve the annual gradually. The first step was to print a larger book with a stiff cover and heavier paper. The price was raised accordingly to seventy-five cents a copy. There was also the question of changing the name as long as the book was being revised. However it was decided that it had been a name of long standing and as such is well known and should remain thus. The method of advertising has also been changed. Instead of selling pages divided into quarters and eighths each iinancial contributor is given recognition by having his name printed in a list in the back of the year book as a Patron. The list of Patrons includes faculty members and students as well as merchants. Fvmlfour THE CEDAR CHEST .--aj ti-jilh it I Q 5 V- 1, . V V4 sh . yv ,vi ,MV ,Mr 2:5 fllrffi, ,. CEDAR BERRY Cedar Berry activities have been very prominent this year 'Ten issues of The Cedar Berry have been published, and each one seemed to surpass the one before. Staff members must turn in work for each issue or they are dropped from the staff. A dope sheet is assigned each month, and a dead line is set for the stories. The Editor, Howard Carriker, then corrects all material with the help of the two assistant editors, Mae Hilbert and Doris Fancher, and Miss Davidson, faculty adviser. The Cedar Berry belongs to the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and competes with many other papers. The Cedar Berry editor, the associate editors, and Miss Davidson went to Columbia University as delegates to the Thirteenth Annual Convention of the Association, March 11, 12, 13. The Cedar Berry was again placed in the fourth class. However, it missed stepping up to third class by only fifteen out of one thousand points. The Cedar Berry has an exchange with about twenty-five school papers from surrounding schools. All of these exchange papers are on file in room H and may be used at any free period.
