Back Row B Wxldes J Kern D Markm W Betthauser V Boettcher B M111er J Baumgarten Second Row J Belcher L Starkey C Yates E Blegel A Klmzey J Kern Fu-st Row Mrs Crowley H Drexer R Gollmck D Kuehl J Kuehl G Robertson B Mansfield The Future Ho1ne1nake1s Club of A111e11ca whlch IS sponsored bv M1s Crowley l1as been very busy th1s year domg 1tS part for Uncle Sa1n They started out the year by helpmg the un1or Red Cross The members helped hem ha11dker chlefs and make Utlllty bags for the SOld1C1S Later on 1n the year they studled a Ho1ne Nursmg course and they also learned the CO1 rect way to apply F1rst a1d In add1t1on to all of thlS HCt1V1ty the gxrls helped boost Uncle Sams war bond and stamp drlve by selllng Wal stamp corsages to the students of Tomah Hlgh School The g1rls made the corsages of n1ne ten cent de fense stamps and sold them for a dollar each The club sponsored a school party on Novem ber the thlrteenth It was a Superstltlous Party The glrls provlded a very good program wlth Betty Wlld6S as Lochlnx ar and Ruth Collmck as hlS Blushmg Brlde On February eleventh the club put on a mass meetmg for the Tomah Westby basketball game The OHICGFS of the club are the fOllOVVll1g pI'CS1d8I1t eanette Kuehl VICC presldent Bettv VV1ldes t18dSlllCI' Celaldme ROb6ltS0l'l and sec 1eta1y amce Ker11 Dllllllg the su1n1ne1 months Mrs Crowlex taught two Red CIOSS lllltI'1tlOI1 classes One of these classes was for women llVlHg 111 lllfdl sec tlons and the other was for WOIHGII l1V1l1g 111 town When the Wo1nen had completed th1s COUISG they each recelved a Red Cross Certlfi cate In March Mrs Crowley offered a Red Cross canteen class for women who had graduated from the Red Cross nutr1t1on course The pur pose of th1s course was to tra1n women so that they would be able to provlde food for people 1n case of d1saster Startmg durmg September general nutr1t1on classes were held monthlv fOl the local lad1es The classes were held on the last Thursday of each month The purpose of the meetlngs was to teach the women the value and 1mportance of var1ous food nutrlents The classes were glven food demonstratlons They were shown how to cook foods properly to retam the food nu tr1e11ts Thls IS of speclal lmportance now that the Unlted States IS at war because food IS not so plentlful as It was formerly The Women were taught how to get all the HlltI'lt1Ol13.l value f1OlTl the foods thev prepaled Because 1t IS so 11nportant at thls tlme 11utr1 tlon IS also stressed 111 the hxgh school home eco nomlcs classes The lllgll school stude11ts are also glven an 0PPOI'tl,lI1lty to put 1nto practlce the very recent theorles COllC6I'I'1lI'lg 1ll1tI'1t10H ,I -s ' 5 - V f v - '. . . . . .
