BASEBALL STARS AIM TO HIT Because of the shortening of the 1941-42 school year the baseball season was considerably ab- breviated. There was enough time between tests to play only three games. The first game was a warm-up with the city team. Paced by a home run by Gillette and good pitching in the clutches by Kenneth DeGorah, the Indians came out with the long end of a 5-2 score. The score of the 1Vestby game, on the home diamond, looked like a free-for-all. 1Vestby led at the end of the fifth inning 6-0. By the end of the sixth inning Tomah tied the score at 6 all. Two errors in the seventh inning accounted for as many runs for Wfestby who won, The score of the Sparta game looked like the score of an exciting football game, 13-1. Sparta took the large score with two home runs with bases loaded. This game, played at Sparta, was the last of a brief season. The game scheduled with La Crosse Logan was called off because of rain. At the end of the season ballots were cast for a captain. The three players chosen were John Graf, a sophomore, and VVarren Gillette and Al- fred Strozewski, seniors. Boys who won letters were: Kenneth DeGorah, 1Varren Gillette, Claire Arity, Robert Cole, Scott Roeder, Alfred Stro- zewski, john Graf, john llischette, Leon Sllisler, james Fell, and George lleser. .fr nad! Bixer. the hoxing coach. resigned his posi- tion. so that the team was left without a coach. .Ks a result of the lack ot a coach the team did not continue the schedule for this year. From last yearis undefeated team only one senior graduated. so this yearis prospects were unusually good. In order to hox in Toinah lligh School the student must maintain passing grades and achieve an almost perfect physical condition. It is customary to hold elimination houts early in the season to determine the team memhers. The hoxers who compete must haye put in a reasonahle amount of instructixe practice. Each person is matched with someone within four pounds of his own weight and nearly equal in ability. Boxing has been very popular with the fans of Tomah. and Tomah High School has a reputa- tion tor good teams and good sportsmanship. Since special emphasis is heing given to sports of this type at the present time. the team is ex- pected to resume fighting again next year. l. TIQMBLERS PROVE FIGVRES llON l'lllLIE if Shut your eyes, open your mouth, and shake your head. This was the remedy given by Bliss XVaters to her tumblers in case one of them was dizzy as a result of too many rolls or cartwheels. Unlike the other school clubs, who meet every second and fourth Tuesday in the month, the tumblers hold their meetings every Tuesday evening. Besides the regular meetings, these girls practice several times a week after school. There was no tumbling team last year, so this is the first year of tumbling for all the members. Dunlap. wear gold shorts and white shirts, representing the school colors. A few helpful suggestions were given to the team by a tumbler, Danny Francis, a soldier sta- tioned at Camp McCoy. The tumblers put on an act at a mass meeting in Ianuary, and also at the Carnival. At Christmas time a party was held, gifts were exchanged, and a lunch was served. The Tumbling Club officers are as follows: president, Beverly Brohaugh, vice-president, Eli- nor Kolb, secretary-treasurer, Elaine Darnutzerg and sergeant-at-arms, Nadine Griffin.
