- rho The foundation of our new school has been laid. future promises a beautiful school. The Pioneer - 1967 Tolleston High School Gary, Indiana THE NEW Pa e 2 BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE The west side of Tolleston is just as modern as the east. This is only the beginning. Men, materials, and money are the basis for our future buildings. MOD. MOD The mod mod look goes wild at Tolleston. Above Jerrilyn and Gail model fishnet stockings and a hip- ster skirt and a jumper. James looks on as Mr. Cicadlo laughs at the new ’boy look of Andrec’s tie. ((« m i am The business manager, Andree works hard as she writes out a receipt for down payments on the pioneer. Other students are very busy, too. The Pioneer staff worked diligently trying to execute the job of producing this yearbook. The hours were full of discussions and opinions when the Pioneer staff tried to gain and compile the most interesting information. The business manager wrote out many receipts for payments for this year’s Pioneer. Other students did various jobs-layouts, copy, typing, and editing. Honor Society members were seated after the The National Senior Honor Society consisted of Juniors and Seniors with better than average scholas- tic records. There were 20 active members. These members worked diligently throughout the year to make it a productive one. This year the Honor Society earned its extra money by selling personal- ized stationery and napkins. Twice a year (at the beginning and end of the year) the Honor Society inducts new members. To become a member of this organization is the highest honor bestowed upon a high school student. One must not only maintain a B average, but he must also excel in leadership, scholarship, character, and service. The main pur- pose of the Honor Society is to gather the intellec- tual aims of its members, and to set up an example of excellence for Tolleston High School. induction ceremony. The 1966-67 PIONEER Staff spent long hours on this year’s PIONEER. The completion of the PIONEER caused great problems which rose one after another. The PIONEER room seemed to be in continuous confusion, but the staff was competent. Frustration began at the first of September when the work on the 1966-67 Pioneer began. This year, the PIONEER has some pages that contain color, which make the book appear more cheerful. The PIONEER was published by a new company this year, and the PIONEER Staff found this company very co-operative. Many new features were added. After hard work the first fifty pages were sent to the publisher in November. The first of the three deadlines had been met. Still, the staff had more work to do. This was only the start of their tedious job. When the first fifty pages were returned in January, there was proofreading to be done. Paste 64 DEMANDS MUCH TIME ROW ONE--Left to Right: Karen Pulliam. ROW THREE: Beverly Russell, Ruth ye Cotton, Darlene Jackson, Priscilla Murphy. Sheila Culver. Finally the book was finished and sent to be published. Although the staff was busy, it had been taking subscrip- tions all year. When the book finally arrived, there was a small amount of work to be completed. The staff finished collecting the money and distributing the annual. The 1966-67 PIONEER was distributed in the middle of May before Senior Check-Out Day. The hard-working PIONEER Staff consisted of twelve seniors and two juniors. The Editor-in-Chief was Deborah Moore, a senior; Assistant Ediotr was Janise Kyle, who was also a senior. The sponsors are Miss Joanne Minelli and Mr. Charles Davis. This year the PIONEER Staff had much help. The Assistant PIONEER Staff was the Journalism I class taught by Miss Minelli. The Assistant PIONEER Staff will be prepared to take charge of next year’s PIONEER. Throughout the course of the meeting French is the only language spoken. The task of learning about this country is aided by the fact that “Le Cerclc attends French plays, and movies, and members sometimes dine in French restaurants. The riouvelle sponsor, Miss J. THE Y-TEENS EXEMPLIFY Tlie Turn-a-bout Committee are on their way to a Y-Tccns meeting in the library. To build a fellowship of women and girls devoted to the task of realizing in our common life those ideals of personal and social living to which we are committed by our faith as Christians. This is the purpose of the Tolles- ton Y-Teens. The Y-Teens had many activities which accomplished their goals. To grow as a per- son: The first activity was a make me over inside and out project. The object was to develop a richer and more pleasing person- ality and a more attractive appearance. For a money-making project, each girl was re- quired to sell a fire extinguisher. With this money the Y-Teens gave their annual Y-Teens Turn-a-bout. The dance was lovely and a complete success. To grow in the knowledge and love of God. The Y-Teens opened every meet- ing with a prayer. They also gave gifts to the Nursing Home for Christmas. These are the goals of the Y-Teens and they worked hard this year to accomp- lish them. For fun the Y-Teens made the in- ductees dress as little girls and put them through a rough initiation. We would also like to thank the administrators, the faculty, and the entire student body for their support and co-operation. Without their help the yearbook would not have been a success.
