With only 55 minutes alloted for each class period, students had no time to spare. These minutes were filled to capacity with such varied subjects as English, French, Psychology, Algebra, Sewing, Woodshop, and Health Safety. Classroom time was well put to use, for students had to work quickly and quietly to accomplish all that had to be done in each short period. Students who have studied a foreign language have dis- covered that basic English skills must be mastered before a foreign language can be completely understood. In the space age today, a great amount of emphasis is placed on the study of science and mathematics. Whether or not students intend to become scientists or mathemati- cians, Tolleston School's administration feels that each student should have some background in these fields. To give students the opportunity to be well versed in these fields Tolleston School's Curriculum contains several courses in math and science. Courses offered in the Social Sciences include World History, World Geography, Psychology, Government and Economics. Each of these courses stressed citizenship to the students. Tolleston offers a complete 4 year program in business. Among the courses offered are Bookkeeping, General Bus- iness, Typing I and II, and Clerical Practice. These courses attempted to preDare our students for future careers in the business field. Students of T.H.S. were able to exhibit their creative ability in many various vocational courses. Through the instructions given by diligent teachers In these educational areas, students were able to learn how to cook, sew, give first aid, care for children, make articles of wood and metal. Tolleston students are required to pass courses in Health Safety before they receive a diploma. The school administration feels that students cannot enjoy life unless they are good in health; therefore, these courses will give the students a background on how to live a healthy life. Physical fitness was strongly stressed by Tolleston School. The physical education teachers stressed courage, strength, and above all sportsmanship. Under the guidance of teachers, students realized that in any sport it doesn't count who wins the game as much as how the game was played! Spotlight On Academic1

Senior students display talent in drama during their English classes. English and History Mrs. Bush points out the case history of a paragraph to her English students. Through the study of English and History students have learned the funda- mental knowledge of English grammar. Also they studied literature which included the reading and understanding of novels, and short stories. In order to understand their reading better students displayed their talent in drama by acting out plays during English hours. History also played an important part this school year. Senior students studied the working of the U.S. Government, while U.S. History students studied the complete history of their country and the problems faced by them. World History students studied problems and history of foreign lands. 18
