Histor Broadens Horizons LY Through the study of History we learn about everything that has hap- pened in the past. World History makes students aware of the problems in foreign lands, while U. S. History provides us with the growth of our own nation. Seniors take a semester of both U. S. Government and Economics. In this way, they learn to take an active part in politics, and also to live in an economic world in a sensible way. Randy points out the course of a bill to a U. S. Govemment class. U. S. In Foreign Language Study German students gather around the piano to sing O Tannenbaumf' Language is the basis of all human rela- tionships: therefore, we must learn to use it correctly, The ability to speak and to write well is essential for success in many fields. A study of the works of great writers is one of the best ways to learn to write well. It en- ables students to express their thoughts clearly and, at the same time, appreciate the beauty of their own language. The study of foreign languages also helps us to better understand our own languages. This year, German, taught by Miss Marsh, was added to the curriculum. By studying this new language, along with Latin and Spanish, Tolleston students can gain a better under- standing of other lands and their cultures. Spanish students, too, enjoy singing songs in class. Mr. Elliott points out the seven hills of ancient Rome to his Latin stu- dents.
