'-' POIVI 81 FLAGLINE The Pom Line brought home the spirit stick from camp and all the girls received superior ratings on their camp routines. To attain their goal of 5500.00 for summer pom camp, the girls sold home-made tamales and burritos. They per- formed at ASU, parades, and tra- veled with the Wolverine Band to California. They wanted to express their appreciation to their new sponsor, lVls. Garcia. The Pom Line consisted of three returning poms and five new poms. The 1982-83 captain's squad. Davina Bonell, Co-Cap- tain, Lupe IVI. Rivera,Co-Captain, Christine Devine. Captain. The Pom Line: Leticia Silvas, Lenay Hedges, Lupe lVl. Rivera, Christine Devine, Kelly Richter, Trisha Brown, Davina Bonnell, Lisa Pennington. The Flagline consisted of 15 girls. Members included Tammy Zocco, Captain, Debbie Tucker, Terri Norman, Chris Odgen, Kim Lodge, Pam Coker, Michelle Soto, Penny Nlc Crea, Becky Hutcherson, Gina Nelson, Co-Captaing Linda Spiller, and Tracie Brown. 138 Poms Receive Spirit Award fXt l. ,,,.s..m-

Through the combined efforts of the 1963-1964 and 1964-1965 student councils, a Victory Bell and school flag were purchased. The Victory Bell was to be rung at football games after each Wolverine touchdown and was sup- posed to begin and end each pep as- sembly. ln 1964 our present day gymnasi- um was built. The old gym was then converted to the cafeteria. ln 1967 Tol- leson, one of eight schools in the United States, was selected to initiate Marine Corp Junior Reserve Officers Training. ln 1970 the female teachers of Tolle- son requested permission from the Board of Education to wear pants to school and to extracurricular activities. Prior to this time, female teachers were required to wear dresses to all school functions. The request was approved. ln 1972 the Board of Education pur- chased the land on the corner of Camp- bell and 91st Avenue. By 1976 Juan Bautusta de Anza High School was completed. Freshman and Sophomore students attended De Anza from 1976 to 1980, while juniors and seniors re- mained at Tolleson. De Anza was sold to the Pendergast School District in 1980. The school is presently named Westwind Elementary. ln 1978 the Flagline was added to the Wolverine Band. ln 1981 our new library was complet- ed as well as a new Industrial Arts com- plex, one ofthe largest in the nation. ln 1982 the campus took on a new look with completion of phase lll of our remodeling, adding more than a dozen new classrooms and a new sport's com- plex with courts for tennis and racquet- Wrong Way Wooten visited our school as a guest of Mayor Herrera, on his wayto California Steve Vigil and John Miller in the Spring Jog-a-Thon. in , ? Flagline Rated Superior Going with the Wolverine Band to ASU Band Day, the Flagline received two excel- lent grades and one superi- or. They put in an excellent performance during ASU's Sun Devil football half time, and performed in California. lVluch credit is due to this group of girls that worked so hard and did so much to make our Flagline one of the best! SHOWING THEIR PRIDE, the Flag- line marches on the field during halftime. The 1982 Homecoming Parade was made more beautiful by the girls marching in step.
