FFA FFA Receives National Recognition The Future Farmers of America received many awards at the State Leadership Conference and the National Convention. Among these awards were the Building Our America Community Project, Chapter Safety, Cotten Drop and Superior Chapter. Oth- er awards included 9 State Farmers, National Safety, National Chapter. Only 28 States received National recognition for two awards. No State received all three national awards. At the State Conference Scott Smith was elected District Presi- dent and became the seventh Vice-President for State. Nick Fox won a proficiency award for Fish and Wildlife Management, Terri Cooper for General Horse Husbandry, Clinton Gibb for Turf and Landscape. In August Jody Fox, Tammie lVlcDaniel, Nlarie Redman attended the First State FFA Camp. Among the things they learned were Public rela- tions and leadership. The officer's retreat was also in August at Hawly Lake. Things learned on the retreat included, giving speeches, parlia- mentary procedure, goal setting and reaching, teamwork and getting along with people. FFA's BOAC project was to install a sprinkler system for the softball fields. Our chapter had something to be proud of because we have achieved alot, and plan to go a lot farther, stated President Redman. YEARBOOK SPDNSORS CONVENTION On October 9, 1982, the yearbook staff sponsored the annual AIPA Convention for journalism students. lt had the largest attendance ever, over 500 students from all over the state of Arizona. It was held at Central Arizona College. When asking Bob Keller, layout editor, how much time goes into the yearbook, he said, Countless, He added, I work on it because l want a good yearbook. Many students give up their lunch hour and stay after school to work on the annual. When asking Scott Jackson why he liked work- ing on the staff, he an- swered: You're working on the history of the year. Scott Jackson, sophomore, shows students how to use the ladder. 'MtN..,.,.
