Ohio State University undamentals of urs ing The arts and principals of nursing are given to Hrst year students in order for them to become familiar with the principles and skills of applied nursing. By demonstration, role playing, and using themselves as guinea pigs, they learn the necessary skills used in nursing. Such things as bed making, temperatures, blood pressures, and many other more difhcult procedures are learned in this manner under the watchful eye of the Fundamentals Department. Here we get a more liberal education, and we are able to go to college and study nursing too. VVe register. go to classes, use the library, student union, and the hallowed halls. VVe are a very small part of the collegiate world, but we are a united part, for where one nurse goes, there goes a train of others. Transportation to the University is an individual thing. WVe ride, walk, drive, or hitch- hike. In six short months, we tramp through rain, heat, cold, snow, ice, and mud. Our laboratory periods are such fun, and are spent dissecting poor defenseless cats, staining slides, tabletops, fingers, and clothes. Medical Faculty Our medical faculty plays a major role in helping the nursing student to develop nursing techniques in all capacities. They capahly lead us from exploring the basic fundamentals of disease, in the classroom, to applying the knowledge we have gained in the hospital setting. Medical nursing re- mains one of the most satisfying and heart- touching phases a student experiences. The constant support and guidance from these instructors helps each one of us to develop our skills and our special talents to the utmost.
