SHAFFER Anatomy and Physiology ii! tw UNIVERSITY GF TOLEDO The first six months of training we attend the University of To- ledo. Here we get a more liberal education, and we are able to go to college and study nursing too. VVe register. go to classes, use the library, student union, and the hallowed halls. VVe are a very small part of the collegiate world, but we are a united part, for where one nurse goes, there goes a train of others. Transportation to the University is an individual thing. WVe ride, walk, drive, or hitch- hike. In six short months, we tramp through rain, heat, cold, snow, ice, and mud. Our laboratory periods are such fun, and are spent dissecting poor defenseless cats, staining slides, tabletops, fingers, and clothes. J a NY 2, . ,. - f f . xv X Miss Beulah Klingler Associate Director of Nursing Education Miss Beulah Klingler has been associated with Toledo Hospital School of Nursing since 1950, as Clinical Instructor in surgical nursing, and as Associate Director of the school since 1951. Prior to that time she worked as assistant head nurse and instructor in delivery room at Lima Memorial Hospital, interrupting the sequence by a year in the Army Nurse Corps during World War H. She took her basic nursing at Lima Memorial Hospital, and received her B.S. degree in Nursing Education at Western Reserve University. Among her professional activities has been six years advisorship to Student Nurse Association of Ohio and ten years to Toledo Student Nurse Association. 7

Ohio State University undamentals of urs ing The arts and principals of nursing are given to Hrst year students in order for them to become familiar with the principles and skills of applied nursing. By demonstration, role playing, and using themselves as guinea pigs, they learn the necessary skills used in nursing. Such things as bed making, temperatures, blood pressures, and many other more difhcult procedures are learned in this manner under the watchful eye of the Fundamentals Department.
