Many Juniors displayed their musical abilities this year. Besides the large group taking part in glee clubs and mixed chorus, Pat Palmer and Merry Gray were members of the Girls' Sextet. Those taking part in the small instrumental groups were Naomi Morgan Trombone Quartet and Brass Sextet Marilyn Blake Saxophone Quartet and Merry Gray Clarinet Quartet Another extra curricular activi ty in which many Juniors participated was the News Reel Bernice Biley and Gail Scott were elected as two of the five cheer leaders of the year At all home basketball and football games anyone could find the Juniors ready and willing to serve them apples and candy bars The proceeds were used to help finance the Junior Semor Banquet and Prom. Our high-light of the year was, of course, the Junior-Senior banquet and prom, which, at this writing, has not arrived yet. But being a very energetic and cooperative class there is no doubt that it will be a huge success. -I 7 2 it 3- h -Fi . egg, 527251 lv ,.- ,-... 1 41 thx lHlJll HIRS Ya 11 ..- -r ' 'z' ,-'bfi 512775, wb- l'9 'Q ffl- -iw. The Homecoming spirit burst into flame as torches lit a huge bonfire and 'Marengo' was burned amid loud cheering of townspeople and students. With a rousing send-off, the pep meeting got under way with the pep band playing On Toledo. Yells, speeches, and a skit-- The Wedding of Miss Victory --completed the gala affair. At 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, the float parade, consisting of the Marching Band, the King and Queen and attendants, and the floats proceeded down main street. The procession stopped at the band stand where Mayor Gary crowned the royal couple. CKing William and Queen Elaine and the attendants--Doris Ferry, Sharla Kvidera, Bob Carson, and Walter Starr--were chosen by popular vote of the high school student body., Friday evening provided the high-light of Homecoming. Upon a gaily decorated Clark Field, the Raiders upset the much-favored Tigers 21-13. At half-time the marching band presented the King and Queen to the fans. Following the game a dance, held in the Community Building for students and alumni, climaxed a perfect Homecoming! Miss Bernice Schreiber was our director, Each member 'of the Little Family has his own idea of the way life should be lived and all of them say so, except Mother Little who is too busy trying to keep the peace. 'Q .uR' Preceding the school year the Toledo marching band stepped out in full step at the Hoover Celebration held at West Branch. During the football season the '48 band, composed of 48 members, marched at all the home games. They also participated in the Marengo Conference Jamboree. The main event of the year was when the marching band and Shirley Brown, our majorette, received a Division I Rating at Ottumwa. Upon their return the band mothers honored them with a banquet. The '49 band, which has 57 members, chose to go to Veishea at Ames, May 14, instead of going to Waterloo or Cedar Rapids, as was customary. khy. IHI V? lWIRlERS x DeLores Rank Pat Rebik 4, Margaret Hill Shirley Brown Lu 4 W C0 CHN BA ll me Concert band beganimmediately after the lastfootball game on November ll. It was composed of 49 members. The first public concert was given in conjunction with the vocaldepartment on December 13 at Wieting Theater. On February 14, we presenteda concert for the P.T.A. meeting held in the high school assembly, The pep band was made up of volunteers from the concert band. They played at the home basketball games, and journeyed to Tama when Toledo clashed with Tama and Dysart in the tournaments. The concert band received a Division l Rating at the Pre-State Contest at La Porte City and also a Division IRating at the State Contest at Iowa City. This is the first time in recent years that the band received a Division I Rating at State Contests in both marching band and concert band. Our ratings are partly due to the determination on the part of the band members and Mr. Timm to show our appreciation to the Bandaides for the wonderful job they did in raising the money to purchase new uniforms. .191 MFE lb-F Qc rx: .1-1 -'4 -, ,, .. .' vas jig: if 2' ,..,.: 3.51 .
