Since her commission in 1949 TOLEDO has played a major role in the mainte- nance of our country's naval defense. On the cruise which We're now completing the ship's proud record has been upheld in TOLEDO's performance both as a ready poised man of War and an effective am- bassador of the United States people. In the year which has passed since I as- sumed command of TOLEDO I have had the unfailing support of her officers and men, making my job a pleasant and grati- fying one. On this in particular, the per- formance of all hands, in their duty at sea and conduct shore, has been a source of pride to me as commanding officer.
