LOOKING FOR SHORTS Two very popular phone numbers aboard the BIC Tn are 359 and 34.5, especially when the lights or fans in your compartment don't work or your phone finally gives up the battle. These two well used phone numbers are located in the Electric and IC Workshops respectively. Contrary to popular belief, the EM and ICEM does a great deal more than just change light bulbs and repair phones. They are responsible for and must keep in work- ing order almost all electrical gear and all in- terior communications gear aboard TOLEDO. Knowing the complexity of the ship, you can imagine the size of their job. The division is divided into six gangs, each with a special job to do. The Power Gang, headed by D. C. VANHOY, EM3, spends most of its time cooling the ship and crew by keeping vent motors and controllers in good repair. The Lighting Gang, with E. T. SCHRAMMEL at its helm, has a constant eye on the lighting, naturally. A lighting electrician is found doing his job anywhere from the bilges to the top of the mast and from the jackstaff to the fantail.

Cracking the whip over the Shop Gang are G. YV. CONIGLIO and K. L. FRANCONE, both EM3's. They work on anything from battle lanterns to good. sized electric motors. GB. LUPTON, EM2, gets most of the Nhoto' jobs because almost all of the Distribution Gang's gear pumps, switch boards, generators and various controllers are in fire and engine rooms. Thanks to T. H. GREENE and W. V. ERICKSON, EM3,s and top men in the Battery and Ordnance Gang, batteries are always charged and ready to go into liberty boats. Ammo hoists, motors, and controllers in the mounts and turrets are all kept in fine working order so we won't be caught with our guard down in an emergency. The IC Gang works out of its own shop. The word work7' applies well to the IC's. The sweat of their toil comes to view during G Q7 when the battle phones are broken out or in the evening at movie call, where they work as projectionists. Even the ship itself is kept on course through the efforts of the IC men, for the gyrocompasses are another part of their responsibility. All of these pieces of gear are kept operative under the management of IC2,s T. I. RITZ, W. E. BACON and E. D. WILSON. Of course, as do all companies, EM and IC INC. also has its executive staff. Our presi- dent is ENSIGN MOSS, vice president is CHELEC LAIR, members of the board and all experts in their field are Chiefs PEL- LEORINO, BECKER and MILLER, and the general manager is E. J. SMITH, EMI. Recognition should not go only to the men cited, but to every man in the division. VVe say, Thanks men, and keep up the great work.77 I BETTER BREAK OUT THE BOOK FOR THIS ONE 4 ' H -.N-A .....- ...... ...M .--,?-.- Y,-.,,.A.,, fqfhairf mg., , .LL ,LVL ,, , , , . .
