Everson 1965 Todd-Grant High School Darien, Georgia In Memoriam JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY 35th President of The United States of America May 29, 1917 November 22, 1963 Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. Inaugural Address 2 Principal’s Message I should like to begin by saying congratulations, for I believe this to be in order for a goal reached. But I wish that those of you who are responsible for this accomplishment (your annual and your graduation) and those to follow will not become complacent. True you have done well--yet there is much to be done. With the many changes, long over- due which are taking place in our society, there is no time for idle thinking. The Civil Rights law recently passed does not make it easier for any of us, regardless of race. All must prove themselves worthy of our great heritage only to be found in America. The intent of the law is good, but it will only work, if all of us realize the impor- tance of the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. We must put forth every effort to be fair one to the other. Even to the extent of leaning over backwards to prove we are our brothers keepers. We must realize that rights and responsibilities go hand in hand. We urge you to demand your rights, but prepare to shoulder your responsibilities. Do not expect something for nothing or hope to share in the harvest without labor. Become conscious of your strengths and weaknesses and control them both to the end that you will become a producer as well as a consumer. I point with pride to many of our former students who did not have as fine facilities as you, but have done real well and have made us proud. Can we depend on you to do the same? Good luck and thanks for the contributions you have made thus far. C. A. DeVillars, Principal Superintendent 's Messape TO THE TIGER STAFF AND STUDENT BODY: I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you, the Senior Class, on reaching this milestone in your life. We are today living in a world changing so rapidly that we cannot afford to let graduation from high school end our education. Education is the most important of our assets, it is the asset that gives meaning to all others. The strength of our country in the future rest on the ideas and knowledge of its citizens. I hope each of you, upon graduation, will continue your education if at all possible. The door of opportunity is open to the one who is best qualified. The one who is truly successful is the one who finds a job to do and does it knowing when he has finished he has done his best. My best wishes are always continued success of each and with each of you; with the faculty, with the school, and with the all. Sincerely, £. W. E. Ethington County School Superintendent ‘Dedication It is with deep sincerity that the members of the 1965 Senior Class dedicate this yearbook to you, our parents. In this small way we say Thank You parents and try to show our deep appreciation for your sincere under- standing, your profound interest in us as your children, and maturing adults in a world of constant change and unrest. Thank you for that extra push, that encouraging word, and that ever present smile. The Senior Class of 1965. 6 CLASS MOTTO We build the Ladder by which we Climb CLASS FLOWER Pink Carnation CLASS COLORS Pink and White CLASS SONG There's a reason for our gladness as we gather here today. Class .History In the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-three a group of girls and boys started to the elementary schools of Darien, Harris Neck, Eulonia, Cannon Bluff and Sapelo Island, Georgia, having no idea that they would someday help the Senior Class of 1965 to be born. We journeyed on through elementary, junior high and we are now half way to our heights of success. The year 1961, the class of 1965 entered a beautiful new world called Todd-Grant High. Compared with most families ours possessed a wide variety of assets, as well as liabilities, but we were all sure that ours was the best ever born. In all cases, everything must possess leadership, thereby, giving us the rights to depict our leaders in our groups as well. The following students served for a number of years. PRESIDENT: Gwendolyn Jones, two years; Gertrude Palmer, one year; Vondell Moran, one year; Jeff Powell, one month. VICE PRESIDENT: Gwendolyn Jones, one year; Eunice Mitchell, two years, and Robert Walters, one year. SECRETARIES: Carolyn Mells, two years; Gertrude Palmer, one year; Eunice Mitchell, one year. TREASURERS: Merleye Grant, one year; Shirley Bacon, one year; Dorothy Jackson, one year; and Earnestine Jordan, one year. BUSINESS MANAGERS: Connie Jackson, one year; and Abram Brown, three years. We believe that the experience gained and the leadership developed will be of decided advantage in the years to come. Our class has been especially honored with a large par- ticipation in all school activities. Among the outstanding social affairs at which we will all look back with happy mem- ories is the Junior-Senior Prom of 1964. This was one of the best proms ever presented at the Todd-Grant High School. The theme for the prom was Roman Holiday. The room was beautifully decorated in colors of purple and white around columnar pillars. The music for the occasion was furnished by Claude Roberts Combo of Savannah, Georgia. The Christmas Dance of 1963, another social affair, will really be remembered by every- one in attendance. The music for this occasion was rendered by Kenneth Swindell and his Rhythm Makers. Today we are a strong body of fifty-three, our members are eager to go forth and to do their best in the way of service for mankind. Already we are looking forward to entering open doors awaiting our future. With the guidance of our advisors Miss L. M. Culver and Mr. C. W. Brown, who have worked constantly with us from the beginning until this present time, we will always have a deep warmth of feeling for them. The curtain is going down on the class of 1965, but in reality we must continue to strive hard because We build the Ladder by which we Climb.
