Former Superintendent Message to the Todd-Grant Seniors of 1961 It is a very special pleasure to greet this fine group of boys and girls who have worked so diligently to become dignified seniors. You have my best wishes for success in a life that is not merely pleasant, but wholesome and useful as well. I hope that your years spent at Todd-Grant will have helped you to lead a truer, fuller life. Mrs. Robert Young Superintendent of Schools McIntosh County Superintendent To the Tiger Staff, Faculty and Student Body. A school, like an individual, develops a specific character, which is recognized by those who know it. It is important to a school to develop high standards of performance and high principles of character just as it is for the individual. Char- acter is produced by many things which are put together to form a total picture. Many of these may seem to be small things but are important, nevertheless. The school's char- acter is formed by the facilities which are used by the faculty, and by the student body. It is my hope that, as we move on, the character of Todd-Grant High School will become so distinctive that members of the student body will be recognized as Todd- Grant High School students. A new age is rising in America and throughout the earth --the space age. The age presents many problems which you will be expected to help solve. We sincerely hope that your social, moral, mental and physical experiences during high school will prepare you to meet the challenges of the age. Let me congratulate the editor and staff on this publication. It is the evidence of team- work, school character, leadership, and determination. I am sure that each student will treasure his copy through the years to come. Sincerely yours, LUoMLj £. 5 Walter E. Ethington

Foreword This, the 196 Tiger, is a book of'memories seen through an imaginary keyhole. They are so fresh and bright that they are hardly memories yet, but time is working at them and even now the things you see in these pages have changed. These, my friends, are your future memories, whether they be too sharply bitter or unenduringly sweet, time will dull the sharp edges-and will be en- veloped in the mistiness of the past. As the years go by, we hope that the following pages will serve as a treasure chest of memories of the days spent at dear Todd-Grant School. May they fill you with inspiration and courage to face the future. The Senior Class Yearbook Staff a

Principal PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE I wish to congratulate you, the sponsor and the class of 196 for the very fine contribution you have made to our school program this year in publishing this annual. As you leave this place, whether you go to a higher institution of learning or to work, I ask of you to develop for yourself, an educational philosophy. This will aid you in determining what is worth doing and will chart your general direction in the search for truth. No individual can serve either himself or others without knowledge, information and skills; they are the essential tools of good citizenship. In a world torn apart by strife and misunderstanding, I ask of you to get the facts and think before you act, in any direction. The ability to think depends, not upon ignoring facts, but upon possessing and using them, without facts and the ability to face them, we cannot hope to adequately solve conflicts that may arise. Our efforts here at Todd-Grant have been directed toward helping you to become a servicable, sociable, understandable individual. How well we have succeeded will exemplify itself in the type of life you live after you leave here. Help us to feel proud and happy for the contribution we have made by giving back to the world some of the many kindnesses that it so generously gave to you. Sincerely Yours, 6 1 C. A. DeVillars, Principal
