ve . L, r I E if We present to you proudly a keyhole glimpse of Tivy. In this book we have strived to capture all the fun and heartaches, all the work and friendships of Tivy. This year has been a memorable one for all of usg we wish this story in pictures to be so, too. Each picture is a treasure, full of mem- ories of which you were a part. The Antler Staff chose a simple keyhole to frame these unfor- gettable experiences and events in our hearts and in this book. Tivy has unlocked the doors of life for us and ushered us into the bright future. It has been the key to the vast riches-truth, honor, loyalty-which await us outside of this, our school. Tivy has taught us the 3 R's and the value of last- ing friendshipsg the true meaning of Tivy spirit! Each moment we have recorded is dear to usg it's something that cannot be put into Words. Our goal is to preserve the warm re lationship in the hearts of each and every member of this, our school As you turn these pages we hope that it will give you a feeling of deep elation, helping to remember the wonderful past as if it were yes terday Now that it has gone, come with us to relive the past. Through this key- hole you'11 find the finest people in the world---Tivy students! L ,,,-J-i,-55,11,g-ggpgf:5. ,U -k,, , f , , x , , ., 1 - f. Here they are shown at a monthly meet- ing at which they decide administrative policies, legal actions about school business, and recommendations for money to be used for school improvements. Seatedfromleft to right are Mr. R,C. McBryde, Mr. Jimmy Holton, presidentg Mr. Cleve Wheelus, secretaryg and Mrs Clyde Parker. Standing are Mr. E, L, Wilciman, superintendentg Mr Rudolph Stehling, Dr. Choice Matthews, vice-president, and Mr. J. B Smith, treasurer, 8 Mr. E, L. Wildman, superintendent of Kerrville Public Schools, studies plans for construction of one of the numerous school buildings. Through the windows in the background can be seen the new elementary school building being erected. During his six years of leadership, the schools have shown steady improvement. Mr. Wildman's goal is to improve Tivy both spiritually and constructively. His close student and teacher relationship has made ' tact. a place in the hearts of all the people with whom he comes 1n con The Antler Staff feels that Tivy can only succeed with a leader such as Mr. Wildman. 9 As apart of Mrs, Florence Weiss' job as the guidance counselor of Tivy, she helps students choose the colleges or universities they might want to attend after grad- uation. Here she shows two high school girls some literature which has beendistributed by institutions of higher learning, J Among Mr. John Sandidge's con- tributions to Tivy High School is his invention of a program board usedintheplanningof classes, He has much responsibility as prin- cipal helping in Tivy's problems and activities, Through his guid- ance and civic contributions, Tivy has always come out on top. 'Q The teachers' insurance policy was the topic of discussion as Mrs . Mary Hirth, secretary, Mrs. Margaret Franke, school nurse, Miss Ruby Alderman, speech correctionist, Mrs., Florence Mills, librarian, and Mrs. Nell Swayze, dietitian, enjoy a cup of coffee. These teachers are an essential part of our school and help to keep it running smoothly. 11 PRODUCERS 0F SCHOLAR The TivyHigh School Faculty is always ready with a helping hand when needed. Their work includes not only teaching but also many other extra curricular activities such as census taking, in-service education, and sponsoring band andpep squad trips. They are fleft to right, Mr. John Wagner, trig- onometry and algebra, Miss Virginia Cooper, general math, Mr. Louis Burton, algebra, and Mr. W,C, Akin, plane geometry, FACULTY Mr. Calvin Hibler, chemistry, explains his experimentof g r o W i n g plants chemically as Mr. Alfred Peters, biology, and Mr. Herman Billnit- zer, generals c i en c e, look on and offer sug- gestions. These teachers help Tivy students to become familiar with the fields of s cience. Through laboratory experiments, they help students to ex- plore the r ealm of the unknown. The anticipation of the new gymnasium adds incentive to the work of these physical education teachers. Miss Georgia Griffith teaches the girls and spon s o r s the An tl e r e tt e s. The vocational department of Tivy is most helpful to the students in preparing the m fo r occupations immediately after graduation. Looking over the props for an assernblyprogram are the fine arts teachers. Mrs. Rachel Luna, left, who teache s speech classes and directs the Junior and Senior plays, has also coached many dramatic class students who have won honors in interscholastic con- tests. Mr. John Armstrong's long and hard work with his band stu- dents has produced a musical or- ganization that has won top honors in many concert andmarching con- tests. In return for their efforts, these people gained real en- joyment from their long, hard practices. DEARIE, DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN. . ? One of the successes of the year was the Junior Dance. It will be easily remembered by the beautiful decorations which effec- tively carried the theme, Shine onHarvest Moon. The floor show was a spotlight of the song Dearie where Audrey Sublett and Buddie Snow impersonated an old couple thinking over their courtin' days. The reason for this new policy was that the absences are detrimental to a student body at any time, and especially to the student who is away from school. However, since the State allots funds to schools on the basis of the average daily attendance of students, each absence from school cuts those funds. Here David Baker, presi- dentg Mrs. Florence Weiss, sponsorg and Buddy Snow, vice-president, look at a student's absentee record. f yu Ill iii I!! i ill ll 1 . 'fri Q x ak ff? UP-In order to meet the deadlines with more accurately planned pages, the staff has a chart by which eachmernber's workis planned. As Jay McElroy, sports editor, and Kinnan Golemon, sophomore editor, indicate, each member checks off the things he has accomplished. PREPARING FOR A BIG YEAR-At the beginning of the year the staff met at Betty Wildman's house to discuss rally. It was at this me e ting that the theme l - was decided on. The Antler is an essential part of Tivy in that it records each year that passes as a pic- ture memory book. The staff consists of twelve members and a sponsor. Members are exemplary students chosen for their outstand- ing writing ability and artistic talents. The first Antler was published in 1920. Since 1930 it has had a standardized cover appearing in different colors with the traditional deerhead and title Antler, The photography is done by a local photographer and a few snaps are used which are taken by students. E HISTORIANS POINT POINTERS-Perhaps one of the mo st important jobs of the Antler Staff is the counting of points for the Who's Who sec- tion. Class editors, Gail Harden tcenterl Lucy Nance frightl, and Kay Mosty tleftl double check the final figures to make sure no mistakeswere made in the first calcu- lations. The newly organized Library Club has carried out its primary purpose of attracting-young people to read- ing. The fifteen members, all students of Tivy, have achieved this end by keeping the approximate 10, OOO volumes in top shape, and by presenting interesting bulletin boards, talks, contests, and film strips to the' students who can be found six periods, before and after school searching for the books of their choice. The active and enthusiastic Library Club meets at noon every first Tuesday to make plans for better serving Tivy and get-togethers of a social nature.
