They compiled a 5 4 1 league record; the best finish in the school’s history. Highlights included a 4-3 win over Bar- rington and a thrilling 0-0 tie vs. Lincoln School in the team s final league game giving them their second place finish. Tiverton ended their season with a 2-1 loss against Lincoln High on Nov. 1, 1984 in the quarter finals of the state playoffs. Earning honors for Tiverton were as follows: Offense: Kristan VonVillas-First Team All-Division and Second Team All- State; Joanne Morrow-First Team All-Di- vision and All-State Honorable Mention; MaryEllen Gendreau-AII Division Honor- able Mention. BECAUSE, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL, A GIRL S SOCCER TEAM WAS ESTABLISHED. Under the di- rection of Coach Joan Davis, a young team of 15 competed against other, more experienced teams from all over Rhode Is- land. Although they did not reach the play-offs, the girls gained confidence and experi- ence with every game they played. This strong season showed great promise for suc- cess in the years to come. GOLF TEAM COM- PETED IN THE SOUTHEAST- ERN DIVISION DURING THE 1983- 1984 SEASON. The Ti- gers finished in fourth place with a record of two wins and six losses. Our first two players, Greg Golden and Tom Ferreira, were experienced golfers. Un- fortunately, inexperience at the other two positions made it diffi- cult for us to achieve playoff contention. Expectations for 1984- 1985: With Tom Ferreira, Mike O’Bryan, Mike Mulvey, and Rick Williamson returning from last year’s team, we are hoping that we will have enough depth in improving our chances for a playoff birth. THE 1984 T.H.S. BOY’S VAR- SITY BASKETBALL TEAM WON THE CLASS C TITLE. CONGRATULATIONS!!! In 1985, the team moved to a more competitive division and under the direction of Coaches Ander- son and Arcouette, they’re with- in sight of another state title. Returning players — Joe Amaral, Chris Morrow, Greg Taylor, Bruce Souza, John Car- ter, Jim Byrne, and Alan Ellis — along with starting sophomore Danny Gaughan and the rest of the team have suprised their competitors by gaining a first place standing by mid-season in their new division. The T.H.S. Boy’s Basketball Team has prov- en it is assembled for one pur- pose, and one purpose only, to win basketball games and the where just doesn ’t make a difference. Lead by Kristan VonVillas, Dana Coute, and Bonnie Lagoda, the Tigers are looing to repeat as division champs and to defend their state championship title. Seniors Mi- chelle Ledoux, Ellen Rosier, Jean Sartini, and Kim Donovan will round out the senior crew with support from juniors Amy Costa, Nancy Smith, and Chris Committo. This team has a good mix of experienced players and young but enthusiastic prospects As always we will be working hard and strvmg to improve. Our success will be a direct reflection of our attitudes towards our season. If we can keep a positive, enthusiastic, self sacrificing frame of mind we will be strong.
