Phantasmagoria (fan taz ma got e a) 1. A changing, often incoherent scene of the real things, illusions, imaginary fancies, deceptions, and the like. 2. A show of optical illusions in which figures increase or decrease in size, fade away, and pass into each other. (Gk. phantasm image + agora assembly) Phantasmagoria Tiverton High School Tiverton, Rhode Island 1977 Table of Contents Faculty Seniors Underclassmen Activities Sports Clubs and Organizations Advertisements Dedication To Mr. Purdy, who helped to make our last year at Tiverton High one which will always be remem- bered. Thanks for letting us laugh at and learn from our mistakes, and for helping our class to draw together. Also, a special thanks to Mrs. Costa, Mr. Loomis, and Mr. Morash, for helping us grow throughout the years. Hey everybody, tell me How do you feel Are you satisfied with your life Do you think it's real Tell me How is your head What are your dreams Do you have any plans Do you have any schemes Do you care about About anybody I'd like to know Is the answer No?” Hey, everybody What's on your mind Do you think there’s nowhere else to go There’s nothing left to find Are you happy where you are Do you have anything to share Do you think you’re gonna waste your life Spending it there Would you like to find a way out Do you think it’s worth a try I'd like to know Is the answer No?” Well, maybe so Come on By John Denver Do you remember days not so very long ago when the world was run by people twice your size? And the days were full of laughter and the nights were full of stars, and when you grew tired you could close your eyes. Yes, the stars were there for wishing and the wind was there for kites, and the morning sun was there for rise and shine. And even if the sniffles kept you home from school in bed, you couldn't hardly stay there after nine. And I wonder if the smell of morning’s faded, what happened to the robin's song that sparkled in the sky? Where's all the water gone that tumbled down a stream? Will I ever catch another butterfly? Will I ever catch another butterfly? by Michael Williams Friendship requires understanding, background, and mutual respect. — Dan Deschene Friends are people who still consider you a friend after a grievance. — Cam Crawford Friendship is being with some good kids, doing some nutty things, and sharing some good times. — Sue Goyette One song leads on to another, one friend to another friend, So I'll travel along with a friend and a song. — Gibson When two people can talk to each other, and laugh together, and understand — that is friendship. — Cheryl Souza Friendship is helping someone solve a problem that he can't handle alone. — Kevin McGuire Forsake not an old friend: for the new is not comparable to him: a new friend is as new wine: when it is old, thou shalt drink it with pleasure. — 9:10 The Bible: Apocrypha To have a friend is to be one. To be a friend is to always be there, in good and bad times. — Michele Eccles OUR FRIENDS WERE. . . Scholars The scholars in Tiverton High were found in various places. We photographed one enthu- siastic group in Pietruska's Super Science Course. We found others in the court- yard. the corridors, and even in a classroom! AND we're bringing you an exclusive picture of Cam Crawford car- rying books! 6 7 Clowns As you can imagine, the pic- tures for this section were not hard to find. Our class has always been good at clowning around. We hope these pic- tures bring back some funny memories, and we know you have lots of your own! By the way, will someone tell the two in the lower left hand corner that displaying affec- tion can be punished by a warning, detention, or parent contact! 8 w. Loafers This was another easy cate- gory to find pictures for. We found people that were tired, bored, or just plain lazy! I think all of us have loafed at one time or another. These are just the people we caught! 10 Ariisis We probably should have named this section creators, because that's what we believe an artist is: one who creates, whether through music, art, or a spe- cial skill. We hope that every- one in our class has experi- enced at one time or another, the thrill of creating some- thing uniquely his. 12 Winners It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game, but it IS great to win sometimes! Everyone in our class has won in some way, whether through athletics, contests, or just by having a good time! 14 16 Faculty Stanley W. Sincoski, Jr. , Superintendent William Goodman Attendance Supervisor Administration Robert A. Poniatowski, Principal The main work of the principal and his office is to insure that all of the different elements in this organization work together so that the mission of the school is realized. That mission, of course, is to provide the best possible educational opportunities for the young people of Tiverton. Few people outside this office see the many and varied functions of administering a school: scheduling, budgeting, maintenance, attendance, guidance, discipline, reporting, supervision, governance, direction, evaluation and leadership. An effectively administrated school is like a well-conducted piece of music where all sections contribute, each in his own way, to the overall effectiveness of the composition. Vincent M. The team lost its starting backfield, including Mike Smalldone and Mike Gross. The team needed more depth - instead of having two players for each position, there were two positions played by each team member. Outstanding players were Buddy Allen, Chris Destramps, Chris Smith, Tim Coffey and Tom Raposa. Dennis Bouchard, an excellent all-around player, received All County, All Providence Journal, All Scholastic and All State honors. He was chosen for the Suburban East 1st All-Star Division. Bob Arcouette and Mark Smaldone made 2nd Team All- Star Division. Tom Tidwell was awarded Honorable Mention. Although the team members practiced with determination, no league games were won. There were, however 2 Injury Fund wins, 1 Scrim- mage win and 1 Scrimmage tie. Pauline Robidoux, center forward, was high scorer. Half-back Barbara Dussault led the defense. Rick Miller and Bob Washburn both worked hard and showed a tre- mendous amount of desire. The team faced a lot of competition this year in Suburban division 1-Large. Although the Varsity team lacked height (no players were over six feet tall), the members played well and put 100% effort into all of the games. 120 Opposite Page, Bottom Left: Coach Andy Anderson, Co-captains John Fra- zier and Joe Valliere, Coach Phil Wet- terland. The early season games all fol- lowed a similar pattern. Tiverton held its own in the first half before running into foul and lack-of-bench strength problems in the second half. With only two regular starters returning, the team was expected to find things tough in the early going, but had the neces- sary tools to pull out a respectable sea- son.
