blasted the Grove Cxty Hlgh quxntuplets by a stupendous score of 30 17 m the best exhxbxtxon of basketball dxsplayed by the Rockets thxs season Smocks new comblnatxon exhxbltlng a novel brand of flght clicked smoothly Thls recently orgamzed comblnatlon was composed of Newson droppxng back to a guard posltxon Bold startlng ln the backcourt and Jesephson flttlng m at Newsons usual spot in the forecourt a new role whlch he played well with Sharp and Leete at thexr usual posts The fellows dxsplaylng aggressxveness and perseverance held the Grovers to seven fleld goals three of whlch were made agamst our reserves 1n the wamng mmutes of play In the thlrd perxod the Rockets soared to a new hxgh by blankmg the mvaders 11 0 to seal the dec1s1on When the fmal gun went off I gazed on all the happy countenances myself overcome wlth joyful bllss and was content to rest upon the evenmgs excltmg actlvity drunk wlth supreme happmess It just lsnt ln the books for us to cop all the honors and we took our turn at defeat ln our stlff encounter wlth a strong Oller team which ground us mto the dust by a score of 34 21 The Smockmen played the flrst quarter wlthout realxzmg that the object of the game IS to outscore the rlvals by makmg baskets However ln the second perlod I found my way mto the hands of Newson who broke the xce with a. fxeld goal Desplte the fact that the Rockets came on to the floor at half tlme laggmg way behlnd the score bemg 21 4 thelr loyal followers cheered them on and team splrlt outscored the Omlers IH the closmg frames but dld not soar above the Wellsmens merry runaround The lnvaders snared a one pomt lead at the beglnnmg of the fray but from then on the aggresslve Rockets took over Never lettmg up thexr pace the Smock scrappers had bullt up a seven pomt lead when the fxrst half plunged mto the past After mtermlssxon when the Rockets had rung up an eleven pomt advantage the Bulldogs commenced thexr come back The Smockmen fought hke demons to remaln ln the front rank but the fourth perlod dwmdled thelr lead to 31 30 Now was the time for Tltusvllle to try xts treasured trxcks I shouted for joy when I found myself w1th1n the safe grasp of Ed Leete In a second I was boundmg through the basket and was bemg recovered by my sender to be shot to Sharp Agam I was hurled through the hoop and the Bulldogs were baffled by our barrage They trled threatemngly to turn the tables but the Rockets just werent to be subdued I was ID the mldst of a mad excltlng whxrl the object of hungry hands My attempts to keep from swxshmg through the strlngs of the Doggle basket ln the dwmdlmg seconds of play were successful and we were crowned the vlctors of the evemngs performance 35 33 Here we are at the last double header ready to witness another thnllmg exhxbltxon between the barkmg Bulldogs and the rampagmg Rockets The game started out hke a Tltusvllle breeze but wound up hke a full blown dog flght wlth the Rockets barely able to ward off a Doggle rallv ln the fmal frame The Smockmen held the Meadvllleltes to two foul pomts 1n the flrst perrod and It wasnt tlll the thlrd frame that the Bulldogs really started to cllck Then they began gammg slowly on a stubbornly flghtlllg Rocket team but they stlll lagged by one pomt when the curtam was pulled The Smockmen chalked up more than one vxctory for the evenmg they also succeeded ln nosmg out a team on the Lmcoln High School floor a goal whlch we had long been strlvmg to accom plxsh 'I'h1s wound up Txtusvllles schedule wxth four of the five starting fellows playmg then' last game for T H S Bold and Leete chalked up the flgures for the scorlng column wh1le Sharp and Nelson played great defensxve games Josephson the only returnmg letterman for next year performed well The fmal balancmg of the books for the season found the Smockmen to be sportmg ten vlctorles to nine set backs Suddenly Pat felt a vlolent shakmg and returning to the realms of reahty he looked up to see Rudy hls partner
