CLASS LTQWURY We were drafted into the A E P CArmy of Educational Eorcesj as Buck Privates on Auvust 30 1937 we started with ll recruits who were HARCLD HEESCH DhLORro IQIB AAD DCNvA CALLI s HABIRT Divkb KEITH BRUNS, JANETTE PRUIS MANN PATSY SFOLKWELL LAQL YOUWL ROB Rl BATT, GRACE SNIDT and JUN OR QNYDER Under the supervlsion of Colonel Carmi chal, we took our dally drllls stopping at the half year to take on a new recruit from Camp Lakota This was ESTHER A3SAw We flnished our first year with the same routine After recelvina a short furlouvh we returned once more to Camp Tltonka where we were promoted to Private PlPSt Class Under this new ratin we recelved Colonel Johnson Wltq the 8ddltlOD of two new recruits from nearty camps They were DECNA JOPNDTON and FRED HOFMANN By this time we were LCCOmlHU oetter acquainted with army rules and regu We received three months furlouah and then back to army life Once more received a promotion We were corporals Assl lna us this year was Colonel Van N st, who Ueliev d in strict army discipline W compl ted thls term rapidly wlth 3 nev recrults lley were EDITH KRULL, La VONNE Mc CLIILY and RALPH AESsEL'AN Also GRACE QNIDT wha translerred to a nearby camp We had little dllflculty tuat year except the ppedimic of measles which struck all bu a few in camp A short leave was viven to ev ryone Aft r P6COV6PlHq from the ebedimic we returned to cimp and finLshed the pear wlthout further upsets Hurrah' another furlouvh for three months and then back to cam to leceive a vcry pleasant surprise We were promoted to Sargeants Thls year we were given a very well liked Colonel Colonel Wellmeyer who alded us throuvh many difTlCUltl8S Army llfe was Uettlnp harder all llong But after struavling nine lon months and after being given a three months furlouvh we were promoted to Staff Sargeants This change was needed by all of the camp as we found army llfe was not all play We also received a new Colonel who was Colonel Thompson, who was substituted by Colonel Bier DONNA RAE CALLIEb was transferred to a different camp this year We went on throuph the year wlth little trouble, ex cept for a feu who were court martmaled for constandly wh1sperinU 1n class 31 Y 'W A' +L.. - , ,- ' 1 -w .I . 1.
