Skills that are learned in the ordinary clas- ses that we take for granted such as typing, shorthand, accounting, and business law. When students leave high school, their awareness for skills needed for opportunit- ies becomes more keenly important than ever before. Knowledge and skills are the basis of a begin- ning for future careers in almost any field that the graduating sen- ior wishes to pursue. Seize the moments of your youth. You can win or lose on Friday night. Itis a game representing life itself. Through the course of your life, you will be knocked down many times; but you still get up and try again. If you don't cross the goal line on a particular play, you try harder next time. In life, if you don't achieve your goal, you strive a little harder in order to be successful. The game of football teaches that when you work together as a team, the team works as one unit and plays much better. Because cooperation is the key to success, working together in life makes things run much more effi- ciently. Most of all, in life as in the game of football, you must devote a lot of time, hard work, sweat, and tears to be victorious. —Mark Slover V y HOOT’S CASING SERVICE C rews available 24 hours a day 371-3605 43 44 itent mens ren the “CC’s” Top row: Shelley McGehee, Tina Dilbeck, Annette Harris, Cheryl Ozment, Ellen Wright, Kelli Gastineau, Mary Ann Burch, Penny Coffman, Mel Talkington, Rosie Burton, and Connie John. They are making big deci- sions and trying to fit everything into place, things like homework, sports, and sometimes even school! Some kids never have time for school or homework, and are there- fore discouraged and are usually high school drop- outs . I have my plans for the future already made out, and am ready for any- thing (or so I think), but I'm still CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE. by Jeff Chandler 7th Grade, TMS TMS the Middle Being caught in the middle is not as bad as some people may think. When you're in the middle, you don't have as many pres- sures as when you're an a- dult.Of course, the people in the middle have prob- lems. If they didn't, they wouldn't be normal.lt just seems that the problems we face aren't as drastic as the ones adults face. When you're caught in the middle, you do have more responsibility than the kids growing up after you.You are also more mat- ure. So to me, being ca- ught in the middle isn't that bad. by Shelley Wooley 7th Grade, TMS 95 HaUMrtorian Valerie Parkhill, valedictorian of Tishomingo Middle School, has a four-year average of 96.12. She has been in Tishomingo schools for six years, having participated in several school musicals and plays while keeping up with her academic studies. In the sixth grade, Valerie was president of her class and was TMS all-school spelling bee champion, earn- ing the privilege of representing the school in the North East District Bee in Tulsa. In her seventh grade year she was 4-H president, and in eighth grade she was a staff writer for the TMS Tid- bits, while continuing activities in basketball and piano. Other interests include riding bicycles, taking pictures, and reading books. Valerie is the daughter of Floy and Lewis Parkhill. Mrs. Parkhill is a tutor at Murray State College, and Mr. Parkhill is an English instructor there. Valerie intends to pursue a college degree at the University of Texas, but is not sure about her major subject, as she has many interests at the moment. It might have something to do with math, she says, or I might teach piano, or be a lot of things; I really don't know yet. Valerie Parkhill j alatatorian Susan Drain, TMS salutatorian, had a four-year aver- age of 96.00 and has attended school in Tishomingo since fourth grade. She has played basketball two years and has been in band for one year. Other interests are singing, riding bicycles, and riding horses. She is an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tishomingo. Susan, a daughter of Carol Drain, who is a teacher's aide at Tishomingo's Head Start program, says she really enjoys school. I guess my favorite subject would be math. I hope to make a career having something to do with mathematics, she commented, and added that she would like to continue her academic interests and earn the hon- or of being high school valedictorian or salutatorian in the next few years.
