Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1971 volume:

A TIME FOR ALL THINGS Spring brings out beauty. The band presented their Spring Concert at the Murray College auditorium. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Jackie Orr, Band Queen, by Randy Martin, Band King. The Junior class worked diligently to give the Seniors a prom they would never forget. After picture taking, speeches and eating, everyone danced to the music of The Twelve Months Summer. The spirit at THS began with the tryouts for new cheerleaders. The five new cheerleaders are Vicki Conway, Linda Can, Darla Phillips, Debbie Carr, and Barbara Hornbeck. Debbie Carr and Barbara Hornbeck, two of the new cheerleaders, lead the group in a yell. A TIME FOR TRY-OUTS The smiling faces of the new majorettes and Drum Major are, Ladonna Benton, Patti Parish, Linda Cox, Debbie Hamilton, and Betty Bivins. 3 A TIME FOR ELECTIONS This year's Student Council began last spring with the election of new officers. Each candidate filed before beginning his campaign. The campaigns began with the making of signs and badges. In the final stages of the campaign, nominating and seconding speeches were made by members of the student body. Closing speeches were made by the candi- dates. The experience of the campaign was bene- ficial to every candidate who ran for an office. Joe Bill Caskey, the Student Council President, is seen at left making his closing speech. 4 Graduation is a time for happiness and for sadness. For the Freshmen it is happi- ness, for they will be entering high school the next year. For most of the Seniors it will be sadness, for they will never be a part of THS again. Each Senior will go his separate way out into the world, to build a life of his own. Robert Nelson, Valedictorian, and Leldon Locke, Salutatorian, are shown at the Freshmen graduation last May. A TIME FOR GRADUATION 5 A Time To Begin Time is present. Time is now. Our time-1971, A TIME FOR ALL THINGS. We, the yearbook staff, have tried to capture the precious mements of THS. You only need to turn the pages to remember the 1970-71 school year. As we progress, we conquer the present, reaching the future with determination and hope. Silently the sands of time trickle away, never to come again except in memories. These are our cherished memories. 6 Table Of Contents Fall INTRODUCTION FOREWORD DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FACULTY FOOTBALL LETTERMEN FOOTBALL HONORS HOMECOMING QUEEN HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES PEP CLUB JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL JUNIOR HIGH LETTERMEN FFA FFA SWEETHEART FHA KINGS 4-H VO TECH JUNIOR HIGH VALEDICTORIAN JUNIOR HIGH SALUTATORI AN SEVENTH GRADE EIGHTH GRADE Spring TRACK STUDENT COUNCIL BAND BAND QUEEN AND BAND BOY MR and MISS INDIAN GIRLS STATE and BOYS STATE ANNUAL STAFF SENIOR HIGH VALEDICTORIAN SENIOR HIGH SALUTATORIAN SENIOR FAVORITES SENIORS A TIME TO. Each player developes mentally as well as physically. He develops mentally learning the significance of teamwork. Physically straining each muscle to improve himself and the team. Immeasurable hours of practice, worry, anticipation, and more practice are spent by the athletes awaiting the big football game, important basketball game, or special track meet. Confidence and the will to win is the basis of a winning team. An athlete's dedication can not be measured. It can only be found in the heart. The joy of winning; the loneliness of defeat. It is the dedicated athlete you see staying after practice to shoot a few extra shots, throw a few more passes, or run a few more laps. These are the people who make up the football, basketball, and track teams of Tishomingo Junior and Senior High School. Their practice and dedication have paid off well. The statistics of each of the sports have been something for all of the students of THS to be proud of. To show you, the athletes, our gratitude and apprecia- tion the yearbook staff would like to ded- icate the 1971 INDIAN to you. 8 Board of Education Offers Ideas School board members for the 1970-1971 school year are left to right. The 1971 Indian did not just happen. The actual plan was formulated in the Spring of 1970. and work continued thru the Summer until the actual work begun in September 1970. When you turn the pages of this production, you will find that most of the activities are listed during the Season when they occurred. With this fomat we have carried the theme through each section of this book. Many hours of thinking, planning and work have gone into making this book a finished history of the school year 1970-71. And we, the Staff of the 1971 Indian, hope you enjoy the changes that have been made. Now, over one year since the first thoughts were put into plans we have the finished idea together for you to look at and remember. Never again will this time be except in the memories of those who made the school year 1970-71 “A Time for all Things”. 96 It’s Time For A Change Classes Karen Autry and Rhonda Spencer. Memories are all we have left of the past. The INDIAN is full of memories . . . memories of a good time ... a friend ... an honor ... a club ... a class ... a queen .. . and a year. Memories that will never be forgotten. It is these sands of time we have tried to capture in the INDIAN. Countless hours have been spent drawing layouts, printing pictures, and writing copy. This frustrating but meaningful work was done by the ten members of the yearbook staff and the sponsor, Mr. Francis. This year has been a very special one to our school. Trophies from football, basketball and band have been added to the collection. As a result of this, school spirit has been on the uprise. A sense of pride has been swelling in our hearts. These achievements could not have been obtained if it were not for the administration and faculty to guide us. They spend their time encouraging us and preparing us for the future. The future seems so far away and the present seems meaningless. But yesterday is a golden treasure of memories. Yesterday is a wonderful place where time stands still and memories live again. Our time.........................................................1971 136
