1968 Indian Cishominjjo public Schools (Eishominqo, (Oklahoma Hoi. 15 Anna McCarthick Editor Karon Johnson Assistant Editor Charolette Harbert Business Manager William G. Francis Advisor Jforefoord Tishomingo High School is many things. It’s the students, the faculty, the buildings, the spirit of working together. It’s the anticipation of the “Big Game”, the rivalry of who will be Queen. It’s assemblies and classes and the rush in the halls, getting to class on time when your locker is stuck. It’s working in the shops or learning to be a Homemaker. It’s Red and White and The Indians; it’s pride in our band, our new library, science lab, and our new football stadium. It’s the rush to the Dairy Queen’s and Cafeteria at noon, the Band Contests, homecoming activities, student council elections, the From. It’s giving oral reports, writing term pa- pers. craming for finals, panic at report card time, striving for Scholarships. All these and more make the “big picture” at Tishomingo High. But the thing that makes it great is GROWTH. Everyone respects you and looks to you for advice and help. You are never too busy to stop and talk with a student or to help the school in any way you can. In appreciation for such devoted service, the yearbook staff proudly dedicates the 1968 INDIAN to you, Mr. Gerald Utley. Indicate to Ulou « As Principal, Mr. Utley has an unmentionable number of du- ties to assume. Although this takes most of his time, he has other duties outside his office. He has done a fine job as coach of our girls’ basketball team, and also sponsoring our Student Council. 4 % Principal 6 Js itperintenciettt 7 IBnard of ISducation and All the students of T.H.S. owe a measure of gratitude to the Board of Education. Although the public often does not realize that they are working quietly “behind the scenes”, the Board is at the head of the administrative functions. A member of the Board gets little recognition for many hours spent working hard. We would like to say to all of you who have played such a major role in our high school life, a very sincere, “thank you”. Members of the Board are Mr. Corbin O’Bryan, Clerk; Mr. Wiley Hacker. Theirs is the task of keeping the rooms clean, the mechanisms running'smoothly and all the other jobs the faculty and the students think of. Four other men who are very important around school are the Bus Drivers. Through all kinds of weather they have the task of getting students to school each day and transporting them to school ac- tivities. They have a great responsibility as bus drivers. We. the students, owe these men a measure of gratitude for their dedication to our school and its activities. To them we say “thank you”. 10 librarians 1C ibrarian Mrs. Othalene Williams Roger Allen. Last year the J unior Play Cast spent weeks working up “Headin’ for a Weddin’ ”, a comedy, which provided enter- tainment for parents and friends, not to mention the fun the play cast and Mr. Caperton had making it. One of the Student Council’s best achievements last year was the Mardi Gras Ball. It provided a break in the ’Spring Fever’ that starts thawing out about that time. The Sophomore Class has wonderful memories of their Freshman Graduation. Speeches, encouraging the class to make the most of their next three years of high school, were given by Valedictorian Randy Martin and Salutatorian Vicki Hutchens. Do to the cancellation of football at Murray State Col- lege, Tishomingo High School had to find another place to play football. Thru Mr. Littlepage’s leadership and hard- work. money was appropriated and construction on a new field began. It was completed in time for the Indians to open the season. 301 West Main DON HALLS B R Hardware Car Parts Buy it right in Tishomingo. First game of the year... the excitement that fills every person . .. the singing of the school song ... the memories that are re- called by each Senior. . . This, and the work within the past twelve years, is what it takes to make a graduate. To make the 1967-68 year their best, the Seniors elected Reggie Easterling, President; Glen Ferris, Vice-President; Jenna Cox, Secretary; and Vikki Autry and Janene Hilton, as Student Council Representatives; to lead their class. To assist in the many well organized activities were their class sponsors Mr. Harold Troutman and Mr. Joe Lowrance. Through the past years these Seniors have made many friendships and have experienced a sense of accomplish- ment as well as failure, both leaving their mark on growing minds. But the times that will be best remembered are those when they worked side-by-side in friendship and loyalty to accomplish something that would represent the best class at T.H.S., the class of’68. BAND BOY When our band steps out sharply on the football field, it is the result of many hours of early morning practice. They were accompanied by the majorettes, Jenna Cox, Sandra Warden, Janene Hilton. Srs.; Debbie Brisco. Jr.; Brenda Sewell, Soph.;and Drum Major Charolette Har- bert, Sr.; who stepped spiritedly on the chilly fall morn- ings. Much credit is to be given to the Band this year. They have tirelessly worked to make this a real big year. Activi- ties for the band started in August with marching practice. Their hard work was evident in the excellent halftime shows presented during football season and in the con- tests they entered. During the month of October, 1967. the band won three trophies: 1st for street parade, 1st for field marching, and a Sweepstakes trophy for the outstanding band at the Konawa Band Festival. They also marched in the Cotton Bowl Festival Parade in Dallas New Years Day. T.H.S. A riu is nr Producing a yearbook takes more than just throwing a few pictures on a page and sending it in to a publisher. It takes long hours, during and after school, of work, tears, respon- sibility and co-operation. Each editor is responsible for his own section but all had to help when the going got tough. The staff was inspired by, urged on, scolded and praised by Mr. Francis, advisor. The total result, we feel, is one of pride .in our endeavors and the knowledge that we are offering a complete record of the year’s activities. Im- measurable time, effort and imagination go into producing the yearbook. no Mr. William G. Francis We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to the many people who have made this yearbook possible. First our appreciation goes to our sponsor and photographer. Mr. Francis and to our assistant photographers. James Fogle and Glenn McCarthick. The publica- tion of this yearbook would not have been possible if it weren’t for students who offered their time and effort and was concerned enough to work when a deadline was approaching. Now the book is finished, and we hope that we have worked a tangled mass of plans, pictures, and names into an INDIAN that you will be proud of and in a special way reflects the hap- penings at Tish-o-High 1968. i We have tried to capture Tishomingo High School on the move, with its experiences and achievements as we have seen it and we hope that we have achieved this goal. Now the last pages have been sent and the 1968 INDIAN is finished. The halls are dimmed as the year 1968 draws to a close and the Graduates leave these halls of learning. But they will brighten once more to inspire, to teach, and to send out another group of graduates to a more brighter future. - —' ' - - - - • ' ■ AW, , 5$' '•p-n- :.--w«7? « ■ C I‘ v x - v f ; ________ i. —— • - vf ., r£ -r .
