Prophecy After waving a last good-bye to Christopher and the five boys, 1 watched the huge Strato-Jet lift off, headed for Tishomingo. The trip from London took only two and a half hours, so soon I was hearing a strangely familiar voice from the control room of Tishomingo's Interland Air Port. Once out of the plane, I hurried to the tower. There, at the microphone, sat a heavy red-haired man. Jerry Race turned around, and smiled. We talked for quite a while, he said that he was chief engineer, and boss on the field. He was always studious. He said that Johnny Hart was head mechanic. While in school, he was always telling Carl Roberts how to fix his car. I asked about Carl, and was completely shocked. Carl and his wife, Jenna Jo, owned this airport. They were awav at the moment in their private 707. Sud- denly, I heard someone behind me, 1 turned and saw Pauline Dilbeck ano Joyce Gray. Pauline was the head travel agent, and Joyce was the hostess in the airport restaurant. I already knew «bout Freda Elkins, who had married George Reed right after graduation, and moved to Oklahoma City. Finally I had to go. I asked Jerry where I could rent a car. He recommended Sam's Rent-A-Car at the end of the field. It was the one and only Sam Thomas, who now had a chain of car lots over the state. Well, twenty years ago he drove a different car to school every day, guess he couldn't shake the habit. I was just in the city limits when I heard the siren. I pulled over and waited. The heavy sher- iff had poked his nose through the open window before I recognized him. He was Jimmy Henry. He explained to me that he had taken over when Kenneth retired, and that he ran a clean county. He had finally got Mickey Hart to replace those old-fashioned pipes with jet-spectors. I asked Jim where was a good beauty parlor. He grinned and said DON JOY on 176 and Main, i shrugged, got 'r.to the car and came into Tishomingo. There it was; DON JOY. I parked the car and went in. I saw a tall brunette and a tiny blonde. Donna Kay and La Joy! Oh, the love scene that took place! La Joy did my hair and poked me under an air cap between two ladies. A closer investigation uncovered Linda Gross and Cath- erine Hughes. Linda and Welborn owned a small swimming resort, with a large raft in the lake's center. Sure did remind me of something. Cathy and Lloyd now had the Tail-N Ranch and were raising Black Angus. I soon discovered that Black Angus weren't all they were raising. Cathy told me that Chloeta and Jimmy were living in Minnesota, where Jimmy was employed at the Mayo Clinic. Chloeta had written that Tommy Brooks was the first patient. It seemed that nearly twenty years ago, he has slipped a disc, while trying to learn the twist, and that he never did learn. I found that Paula Gilbert and Jerry Ruth had married and owned a small editing shop near Ada. I still don’t know what that is. Elaine Craighead was in Oklahoma City, working for the President of Interplanetary Space Control, Don Yeats. He always did like complicated things. While La Joy combed my hair, she told me that Barbara Sue was married and had nine children, all girls. I saw Sherry Sue walk by, and started to flag her down, but La Joy warned me that she was awfully busy, it seemed that she tired of taking orders from Dale, and had moved him out. She now ran the theatre with her three boys. I chanced to pick up a local magazine and saw Betty Stoddard's picture. Why, I remember her first concert at the London Palladium in 1968. I also saw an ad for the Crown Cafe, now run by Denton and Billie Sue Blevins. Denton was the chef and Billie waited tables. I saw Jerry Thompson's picture, too. He played basketball with the Harlem Interplanetary Trotters, and was their most valuable player. I knew that Reta Jo and Calvin still lived in Tishomingo, close to Mary Austin, who still hadn't married. I was sorry to learn that Barbia had married and moved to Maine, where her husband was a news announcer. I finally walked from DON JOY and headed for the air port, back to Christopher and the boys.
