Tom Burch compiled seven points in the third quarter for the first signs of victory, while Gary Lawley took a pass into the end zone in the last period to finish THS's scoring in the game. A hard-fighting Fox team ran up a 35-13 score on the Indians as they triec for their second win of the season here September 16. Two passing plays ir the first half set up the Indians' first score. The closing scores came wher Tommy Quaid took a pass from Gary Lawley and went 35 yards for a TD and LaRoyce Sayre gathered in the extra point. The Indians edged an 8â0 victory over the Konowa Tigers in a close battle exhibited September 24 at Konowa. Halfback Bobby Willard tore through the Tigers line and made an impressive 60-yard run. Bobby made the only Indiar touchdown of the night. Tommy Quaid chipped in two points by effecting c safety. Both teams suffered heavily from penalties during the entire game. Unable to keep the Wolves from the door was the plight of the Indians on October 1, when they met the Davis Wolves at Davis. The Indian goal line was crossed five times, with three extra points, to add up to a 33-6 pouncing. Kent Frost, with a hand-off from Gary Lawley, marked Tishomingo's only touchdown. Ryan's Cowboys hit the dust as the Indians shot out a 12â7 win on Murray Field October 8. After an opening-minute touchdown by Ryan, the Indians got their bearings and scored two TDâs. Gary Lawley scored first on a keeper play in the first period, and came back in the second, to add last six Indian points. The first Little Dixie Conference game of the season saw the Indians come through with an 18-13 victory over the Coalgate Wildcats on October 1$ at Coal- gate. Gary Lawley hit pay dirt twice to bring the Indian score to 12 points, and Tom Burch topped it off with 6 more points. The Indians got a glimpse of near- defeat as the Wildcats were deep in Indian territory late in the fourth quarter, but the Indian defense held until the end of the game. Homecoming on October 21 was brightened by the 27-0 victory over the Allen Mustangs, but made soggy by a continual downpour of rain. This was the sec- ond year the Indians defeated the Mustangs in the mud. Bobby Willard scored in the second quarter, and at the beginning of the third, he returned the kick-off 90 yards for another touchdown. Kent Frost and Charles Reaves, sophomores, tallied six points each to contribute to the Indiansâ total score. The Marietta Indians whizzed by the handicapped THS team 39 to 0 at Marietta on October 27. The half-time score was 12â0, but the second half saw the Marietta boys fired up, with Wineblood and Armstrong proving outstanding in their backfield. A fast-moving Antlers team shackled the Indians' chance for the Little Dixie Conference title by defeating the Indians 27â0 at Antlers November 5. The first half was a hard fought battle, ending 7â0 in favor of the Bearcats. Indian defense showed up well until Burch was injured in the last half. Antlers' Dooley Martin accounted for three Bearcat touchdowns and Watson, one. A 48â6 scoring spree gave victory to the Indians in their last home game when they tromped the Atoka Wampus Cats, November 12. Gary Lawley crossed Atoka's goal twice, while Tommy Quaid, Tom Burch, Fletcher Wheeler, and Dur- wood Buckner checked in 6 points each. All except one of the Indian conversion attempts were good. High-spirited Tishomingo fans saw the Indians battling all the way with their favorite rivals, the Madill Wildcats, November 19 for a 32â13 loss. Tom Burch led the Indians to a 6â0 lead over the Wildcats in the second quarter; but the Wildcats came back with 3 touchdowns, ending the first half with a 20â6 score. Gary Lawley reached the end zone from the 50-yard line for six points in the third quarter. Two touchdowns in last half assured Madill the victory. Tom Burch, Back ' Nr- I R. L.
