Tishomingo County Agricultural High School 23 TEACHERS FOR RURAL SCHOOLS The colleges and universities of the state are not fur- nishing enough teachers to fill the places in the state. The Agricultural High School, in the future, will give to the' ru- ral schools many of their teachers . Our graduates are teach- ing with success Wherever they go. Hundreds of graduates from similar schools are doing likewise. The high standard set for teachers by the State Board of Education necessi- tates a high school training. LITERARY SOCIETIES The. last hour on Friday afternoons is devoted to Work in our literary societies. The work of these societies con- sists of readings, declamations, essays, music, etc. There are three organizations, the John M. Stone, the Stephen D. Lee, and the Sigma. The former two are for boys and the latter for girls. Each pupil is expected to join one of these societies. We consider the work in these societies one of the most important in school life. The work inspires the pupils and brings them closer together. These societies have contests from time to time which shows what they are doing. In this work the pupils are not left entirely to themselves. The teachers. are required to be present and assist in the work. In other words, this is a part of the regular school work. ENTERTAINMENT Outside the class room, we offer various forms of en- tertainment. Public entertainment will be given by pupils themselves. We have had excellent plays given by pupils in the past. It gives them a chance to develop themselves along literary lines. Ball games of various kinds will be en- gaged, in for the outdoor sport. Aside from this we also give entertainments at the girls' dormitory to break the monotony of school life and get bet- ter acquainted with each other. All of these are so dis- tributed that they do not interfere with school work and serve as recreation for both teacher and pupil. An excellent Lyceum Course will be given.
