Tishomingo County Agricultural High School 13 PURPOSES The agricultural high schools of the state have solved the problem of a high school education for rural boys and girls. Our old form of laws made no provision for such edu- cation, and hence our children, when they finished the graml mar school, had to attend some private high school in order to secure a high school education or prepare for college, and the cost was often so much that many students were kept from attending high school at all. It is thus seen that these schools fill the missing link in our public school system of the state. Boys and girls are ofered wonderful opportunities in agricultural high schools to develop themselves along the line of better rural conditions and home life. Provision is made to furnish free tuition, room rent, furniture etc. Board is furnished at actual cost. Pupils can secure an education Without going two or three hundred miles from home. Again, these schools brings us to a realization of the connection between an education and reallife. Education is the preparation for proper living. Boys and girls, very of- ten leave school because they fail to see this connection. A large per cent of our girls marry at an early age and take up the Work of home-making. Our system of education in the past has ignored this fact: but girls are now offered, .in connection with other studies, courses in home science such as will prepare them for their natural sphere in life. The main purpose of the agricultural high school is to prepare boys and girls to be profitable farmers, and to ap- preciate the greatest asset that Mississippians have, that of being land owners in a state where eighty-five per cent of the people are directly interested in rural life. The agricultural high school plays another very im- portant part in rural life, and that is in preparing teachers for the various public schools of the counties of the state. It is a well known fact at this time that more teachers come from the agricultural high schools that from any other type of school in the state. Boys and girls who anticipate on going to college may prepare themselves here and enter any college in the state without examination. '

Tishomingo County Agricultural High School 15 BUILDINGS ' On our beautiful campus are three main buildings con- stituting the. Tishomingo County Agricultural High School. The administration building is very up-to-date, built by a late plan of architecture, and is well equipped with modern school furniture. It contains six class rooms and a large auditorium. The boys dormitory is a new brick structure, containing thirty-two rooms, well ventilated and lighted. Each room is furnished with bedstead, mattress, springs, chairs, table, dresser, bowl and pitcher. The boys in the dormitory will be under the direct control of the Superintendent and the men teachers. The girls' dormitory, located on the opposite side of the campus from the boys' dormitory, is much larger and more commodious, includes the dining hall and cooking de- partment. The kitchen contains two large range stoves with hot water attachment. The rooms are furnished with the same kind of furni- ture as the boys dormitory. The girls will be under the im- mediate control of the matron and lady teachers. In addition to these buildings, there is a. good barn for storage purposes and live stock, a bungalow for the Super- intendent, and a farm shop with class room connected. .Qii GROUNDS These consist of our beautiful campus and little farm. The former contains about seven acres, and the latter about eighteen. Part of the farm is in pasture, but most of it is cultivated. On the campus is found the main school build- ing and dormitories, the Supe'rintendent's home and Agri- cultural building. Here We also find basket ball courts, ten- nis courts, etc. The campus is perfectly drained. The land- scape gardner could not add to its contour. Broad gravel driveways and sidewalks are found running across the cam- pus in several directions. Many beautiful shade trees are found on all parts of the campus. A great deal of shrub- bery is growing in many places, which adds to the beauty of the grounds.
