A course will be offered in typewriting and shorthand. Those boys and girls who are interested in this line of work may secure training while in school. The work will be standardized and will count on diploma for graduation. A pupil may earn as many as four units during the high school course. High school graduates will be allowed to earn two units in a semester of four and a half months. Beginning with the session of 1927-28 credit will be given in music and expression. We invite boys and girls, parents and friends, who are interested in alhigh school education, to investigate the school, the course of study, etc., and write to the Superin- tendent for further information.

Tishomingo County Agricultural High School 13 PURPOSES The agricultural high schools of the state have solved the problem of a high school education for rural boys and girls. Our old form of laws made no provision for such edu- cation, and hence our children, when they finished the graml mar school, had to attend some private high school in order to secure a high school education or prepare for college, and the cost was often so much that many students were kept from attending high school at all. It is thus seen that these schools fill the missing link in our public school system of the state. Boys and girls are ofered wonderful opportunities in agricultural high schools to develop themselves along the line of better rural conditions and home life. Provision is made to furnish free tuition, room rent, furniture etc. Board is furnished at actual cost. Pupils can secure an education Without going two or three hundred miles from home. Again, these schools brings us to a realization of the connection between an education and reallife. Education is the preparation for proper living. Boys and girls, very of- ten leave school because they fail to see this connection. A large per cent of our girls marry at an early age and take up the Work of home-making. Our system of education in the past has ignored this fact: but girls are now offered, .in connection with other studies, courses in home science such as will prepare them for their natural sphere in life. The main purpose of the agricultural high school is to prepare boys and girls to be profitable farmers, and to ap- preciate the greatest asset that Mississippians have, that of being land owners in a state where eighty-five per cent of the people are directly interested in rural life. The agricultural high school plays another very im- portant part in rural life, and that is in preparing teachers for the various public schools of the counties of the state. It is a well known fact at this time that more teachers come from the agricultural high schools that from any other type of school in the state. Boys and girls who anticipate on going to college may prepare themselves here and enter any college in the state without examination. '
