I-IARTMUT BARTH OUR EXCHANGE STUDENT FROM GERMANY One week after I came to Tlpton school started I looked forward to the reopemng but not because I love school I wanted to know what xt looked llke W1ll It be lxke back home m Germany? How wlll I get along with the study1ng How are the boys and gxrls gomg to accept me All those questlons went through my m1nd The more I thought about lt the more I was scared But soon I got an answer to all mv doubts My flrst lmpresslon was Everythmg IS totally d1fferent Why I could wrlte a book about lt by now The boys and glrls nelther neglected me nor admlred me I was Just another one of them Some asked me to work on commlttees other ones wanted me to Jom thelr club or orgamzatlcn Some took me for a rxde and showed me the countrysxde and some 1nv1ted me to then partles I d1d not expect such a hearty welcome by people I have never seen and after mv year IS over I probably never wxll hear from agam When I go back to Germany I can tell only good thlngs If I have a chance later on to come back I mlght take It because Amerlca IS Amerlca I remember my fxrst day In THS very well I thought that I never wo lld learn to f1nd my way around and never would get to know all of you But everyone has been so n1ce to me lt was easler than I expected It to be You treated me l1ke one of your own and that IS the way I l1ke lt I want to thank you all for makmg my hlgh school year as happy as It has been I have learned many thmgs about your country and abolt nts c1t1zens and I found that human nature IS the same no matter what natlonallty you are I w1sh that many more students could have the opportumty I have had by gomg to your hlgh school and I wish that more Amerxcans would v1s1t our countrles 1n Europe and see how we l1ve I certamly hope that I may have the prlvllege to welcome many THS frlends m my home m Denmark Hope to be back some day These two boys Bxll Colllns and Danny Hodge are also members of the class of 19:16 although they are not graduatmg w1th us B111 graduated at the end of h1s Jamor year and IS now a freshman at Wabash College Danny graduated at the end of the flrst semester hls semor year Best of luck and contmued success to them fn om then classmates and fellow stadents at THS Bnl Collms Danny Hodge GERTRUDE HENNINGSON, OUR EXCHANGE STUDENT FROM DENMARK
