We found him to be understanding, kind, and helpful in guid- ing us into a richer and fuller life. In recognition of his 15th year as elementary principal, we dedicate the 1958 Canoe to Mr. Harold Netzley. 1+ was o long climb as • « ' biil We Helped %.i K i - I f % % I T We Cheered y , ' i ■M We Worked ••• We Studied mjm We Ployed Vi - ' . Monitor System Due to the staggered lunch hours this year, it was necessary for the Student Council to find a solu- tion for the situation in the halls during class time. They decided upon a monitor system. This system consists of several students stationed in the halls and at all entrances during the lunch hours. In order for a student to enter the building, he must first obtain a pass from a monitor. This pass is good for four minutes. The system keeps students out of the halls while classes are in session. In order to decide who would have the privilege of being a monitor, students desiring a position applied through the Student Council and were screened accord- ing to grades and other requirements. 5P0CTS With a record bright with glory With defeat and victory lined. Red Devil Football Team The Tipp City Red Devils started their season on a sour note when they traveled to Covington and fell before the Bucs 26-7. The next week the devils tied a favored West Carrolton eleven, 0-0, in the SWBL opener. Tipp then registered wins over all other league teams with only a 13-13 tie with powerful Eaton blemishing their record. This gave Tipp a second place finish in the Southwestern Buckeye League, which is the high- est for the local team in several years. The squad ended the season with a win over the non-league Tecumseh to score a splendid 6-1-2 season. For one half of the day, establishments of employers are used for training students in actual occupational activities. The other half of the day is divided between academic subjects and study re- lated to work being done on the job. While several occupations are included in the program, each student receives training in only one. The boy grad- uates along with the rest of his class. Kriss Kringle Ball The holiday season at Tipp High was highlighted by the annual Christ- mas Dance presented by the Junioi Class on December 21, 1957. The decorations were accented by a huge lifelike figure of Santa Claus towering over the dance floor at the end of the gymna- sium. The room was cleverly decorated with many greens and a rustic fireplace on the stage. Music was supplied by an orchestra. Everyone who attended will always cherish this as one of their fondest memories of Tippecanoe. John Halteman was chairman of the affair. Aloha ' 57 On May 11. 1957, the Qass of 1958 presented the traditional Junior-Sen- ior Prom for the Class of 1957 . The auditorium was beautifully decorated in a Hawaiian theme using shades of gold, silver, and white. Also very effec- tive were the palm trees, a grass hut, a live flower cascade, and a scene on the beach in the moonlight. A delicious ham dinner was served and entertainment was provided by an orchestra and an exotic Hawaiian hula artist. Neva June Neff was chairman of this gala event. Papa Was a Preacher was the title of the entertaining family comedy presented by the Qass of 1958 on April 12, 1957. A large crowd enjoyed the many funny situations which the family of Rev- erend Porter got into during the evening. On this beautiful sunny morning of May, 1970, a great scientific and historical event has taken place. A rocket containing sixty-seven brave men and women has just landed on the moon. These people were chosen because they were the bravest, most talented, and most brilliant people in the world. Yes, they are members of the class of 1958, of Tippecanoe High School, Tipp City, Ohio. We will now switch you to the moon where our newsman will interview these amazing people as they take their first look at this mysterious place. Here we are on the moon. The feelings are mixed as these brave men and women unboard the rocketship which was made and designed by the famous scientists Harold Royce and Ann Smith, who are the first to come out of the door. By the looks on their faces they seem to be quite thrilled. Following behind them with microscope and magnifying glass in hand is the renowned and daring explorer Dale Boocher. Here comes the famous woman detective, Ruth Gilbert, looking slyly around. She seems to have spotted something. Wait a minute! It looks as though someone is coming out of the window of the rocket - - - let me see yes, I believe it is Larry Blank and Joyce Briscoe. Larry is now the leader of the notorious skull gang in New York and Joyce is an ex- perienced moonshiner in the hills of Kentucky. 1 do hope that there won ' t be any trouble. What ' s that noise? Oh, what a relief! It ' s just Tabert Brammer and Janet Earhart excitedly telling each other about their jobs. Tabert has found her life ' s work as head matron in an insane asylum for bachelors, and Janet is now the physical education instructor at the Boys Industrial School. Sounds very interesting! Here come four distinguished looking people. I believe it is George Collins, Joe Ballard, Tom Rodenberg, and Mary Hartley. Joe is now the president of the Ballard Biscuit Co. and George is owner of the Plymouth Co. Right now they seem very interested in the conversation between Mary and Tom who are talking about business matters. Tom is a door to door salesman for women ' s lingerie and Mary is the owner and operator of the famous B. V. D. factory. The next person coming off of the rocket looks very frightened. This must be Jim Davis, the noted fighter for traffic safety. His slogan is, Slower Vehicles for America. High speeds certainly scare him! Another group of people are now unboarding the plane. These are the members of the class who are now making their home town famous. Let ' s see, there ' s Levi Booher, renowned farmer, who is talking about the farm situation with Miss Livestock of 1970, Ann Shearer. Walking behind them is Peggy Brenner, famous Mistle-toe grower, who is talking to Steve White, new owner of a septic tank cleaning company. His collections he finds are helping his rose gardens immensely. Here come the educators of Tipp. Mike Priller, who is now principal of Tippecanoe High School, is dis- cussing the problem of discipline with Martin Brown who has replaced his mother as librarian at the high school. I also see Wayne Earles, Gordon Fulton, and Judy Stum who are some of Tipp ' s most prosperous business people. Wayne is the owner of the Smokery, Gordon is owner and operator of the Dixie Wrecking Co. , and Judy is a .bouncer at the Sequoia. Now coming out of the rocket is Penny Krieger and Sandy Homer. Sandy, the head cook in the school cafeteria is giving Penny, recently chosen Housewife of the Year, some advice on how to cook rubber and make it taste like ham. By the way, Penny is also the inventor of an automatic diapering machine. Following them are Patty Vance, Wilma Cain, and Darlene Hartley who are telling everyone about their expe- riences. It seems they have brought a Submarine and have been examining life on the bottom of the ocean. For safety measures their brave frogman, John Roberts, follows them wherever they go to help get them out of bad situations. John is now conversing with a strong looking man in hip boots and a helmet. That must be the famous hunter Scot Smith - he just got back from Africa on a hunting expedition. It seems to be a secret about what he hunts for. The medical profession is well represented on this adventure. There ' s Sam Brown, dentist and inventor of a new type of glue for false teeth, Doris Pitts, veterinarian, who has been fighting with Harold Magaw, termite exterminator, the whole trip about the inhuman treatment of the poor, helpless termites, and Richard Rohr, fa- mous surgeon in charge of ingrown toenails. Richard and JoAnn Houser have been discussing the new type of vitamin pill that JoAnn has just invented. Now all eyes are on the door. Some of the Hollywood celebrities are with us today. Here comes the beauti- ful actress, Connie Bowers, with her hair dresser, Jon Shaneyfelt behind her. Following them are Linda Evans, famous Chorus Girl, now starring at the Culturab Club and Janet Sammons, renowned toe dancer who appears periodically on the Mickey Mouse Club. Next out of the rocket are Judy Fox and Anita Long who are very seriously discussing the advantages of Rock and Roll at the Metropolitan Opera. Judy is a rock and roll teacher and dancer, and Anita is now featuring as saxophone soloist with Fats Domino. Two more people that we are very proud of are now appearing at the door, Bill Cost and Nancy Goubeaux. Bill is now engaged in educati onal work on television. He is the master of ceremonies on Ding Dong School. Nancy is a famous roller skater and inventor. She invented a new type of padding for the hardest hit regions. There is quite a crowd gathering around the door of the rocket now. Everyone is screaming so loud that I can barely tell what ' s going on. I believe I see something with red, purple, green, and orange stripes. Oh yes, the exciting moment has arrived, the Mr. Universe of 1970 has jmt stepped off the rocket - his name is Ron Fritzche. Following Ron, looking very mad and disgusted at the whole idea, is John Wilmouth the famous opera star and his wife, Mrs, Wilmouth, the former Elsie Vore. Miss Vore is an inventor of a special type of ear plugs. Everyone is looking excitedly toward the sky. Yes, that must be Sylvia Eickhoff, the only member of the class who could not come with us. Sylvia is now riding in Sputnick No. 5, 000, but she promised to buzz the moon on her way around. Someone just ran out of the rocket wildly waving their hands at Sylvia in Sputnick. That is no doubt Judy Jenkins, the famous Olympic runner. Judy is now trying to beat Sputnick. We all wish her luck. Next we see Jayne Home and Neva Neff. Jayne is telling Neva of her back breaking job of personal secre- tary to the retired Mr. James Spencer on his Texas ranch. Neva is telling Jane how to get away from it all. She is the famous lecturer and writer on Love. Her latest book is entitled Hook Him! What ' s everyone getting boxes to stand on for? Oh, now I see - The famous center basketball player for the ladies ' professional champs is now in view. Her name is Linda Magel. Where ' s that loud laughing coming from? You might know! It ' s Lloyd Harmon the famous heavyweight prize frighter and his personal chiropractor, Bev. Stark, who are talking to Liz Peterson, the renouned heavyweight lady wrestler who is famous for her triple toe bite. Who ' s that distinguished looking gentleman with that beautiful girl? Wow! Oh yes, that ' s John Moore, famous feather fan manufacturer, with Carole Neal his model. Walking behind them trying to keep an eye on Carole is Stan Hatfield. Stan has really struck it rich. He inherited an island in the middle of the Pacific with a little grass hut and a harem of 200 girls. As you can well imagine Stan is a very sad man! What ' s this? Looking very content in her black and white striped suit is Margot Olson. Margot has received quite an honor. She is the first woman to have a lifelong membership in Sing Sing. She received a two month parole to come here, because she is an honor student. I know we ' re all very proud of her! The next person to walk out of the rocket is Skip Layton, who is looking very dejected and depressed. Skip is a noted lecturer and expert on the Power of Positive Thinking. He now resides in the city jail. There are also some very famous people from the U. S. government on this trip. I see Charles Sayte, brilliant Professor of U. S. Government at Harvard University, questioning Bill Sims, Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court on some of its recent decisions. Behind them is Amis Delmage, Ambassador to the Canary Islands, who is earnestly conversing with Bill Miller, from Hawaii. Bill has really made a name for himself there as Chief Grass Cutter. His sign reads, Skirts Trimmed Free of Charge. Following them is Marilyn Phillips. Mari- lyn is late getting off of the rocket, because she has been busy with h er hobby. She collects bottles and labels containing new and different species of germs. The chatter of excited and loud voices is suddenly dying down. Someone very important must be coming off of the rocket now. There is dead silence and everyone removes his hat as John Gillam, the tyrant dictator of Lower Slobovia comes marching down the steps in very stately form. It seems that on our trip here he has threatened and bribed everyone. Now coming out of the plane are Barbara Ingle and Evelyn McBee, the pilots of the rocket. They are re- ceiving a very hardy round of applause for their marvelous job. We are now anxiously looking forward to further excursions on the moon and our safe return. Now that you have met all of these amazing people, don ' t you agree that the class of 1958 of Tippecanoe High School is the greatest and most terrific class that ever was? PATRONS Without the aid of the people whose names appear on the following pages, this book would be impossible to pub- lish. Let ' s not forget to show our appre- ciation!  J, ■■■f? ' 4. -tt.
