Junior Tom Matthews shows the out- Coach Farley's track team pulled off an unexpected third place in conference this year. This showing was unexpected because there were only thirteen varsity runners. An outstanding figure this year was Terry Cali- ban. Not only did he place fifth in the pole vault at the district meet, he set a new school record of 12 feet-8 inches. Terry was also part of the fifth place mile relay team at districts, which narrowly missed qualify- ing for the state finals. Other members of the relay team were Dave Krause, Curt Zu- baty, and Dan Bulow. Other standouts were Tom Matthews, rated as one of the top hur- dlers in the area, Bruce Boughton, Tinley's foremost distance runner, Bill Burgee and Wayne Bernas, both top-notch at the 220 meter. standing form which enabled him to take conference places in the high , jump, low hurdles,and high hurdles. Special honors went to Bob Miner, most valuable play- er, Terry Shannon, team captain: Rick Bailey, most improved player.
