Above: The end result of the 1972 football season. Right: A victorious Titan squad carries its coach off field. The 1972 Titans started the season as somewhat of an underdog, picked by most local papers to finish fifth in their conference. But head coach Jim Fredenberger along with coaches Ted Gunaka and Tony Moriarty made other plans for the 72 season. Together they built the most power packed team in the school's history. Not only did they win the south- east suburban crown, they were rated tops in the area and seventh in the state. They also racked up a new scoring record of 234 points in one season, and the defense managed to shut out more than half of its opponents allow- ing only 48 points against them, another record. To add to this the Titans took eight positions on the all conference team and six positions on the all area team. They became the first undefeated team in the school's history, finishingthe season 9-O
