Intelligent and seeking, he was born to lead. Qreat in stature, he was handsome, kind, and wise. At an early age, he proved himself to be stalwart and brave and because of his skill and valor on the battlefield, he gained favor in the eyes of the people and was knighted Sir Zalon by his King. Anxious to discover what lay beyond his kingdom. Sir Zalon set forth on his quest. Silence gripped the forest when suddenly he was drawn from his thoughts by the unexpected stumbling of his steed. Cooking down. Sir Zalon’s eyes fell upon a fallen nest and he saw the scrawny shivering bird. Zaking the bird to the warmth of his cloat. Sir Zalon’s kind heart bound him to the tiny creature, (foodness and virtue brought the man to the tiny bird, unaware that in his bosom he grasped the greatness of the ZMUflDSKKJKD. Jnseparable now. bird and man lived, fought, and grew as one. One night while watching stars under a summer moon, a magical storm enveloped them. Slashes of twisting, writhing lightning lit up the night sky eerily. Claps of thunder accented the flashes and shook and battered the ground. Zrees danced, bending horribly before a merciless wind. Sir Zalon and the bird were whisked away, round and round, hurled through time and space. Centuries passed before their eyes as they were tossed and thrown by the storm. As suddenly as it began the storm stopped and man and bird found themselves thousands of years in the future HK I uge buildings, strange stat tl ues. unreadable sounds, and TA rnjtM H people in strange hats pum- meled Sir Talon and the Thunderbird as they whirled through time and space. Sir Talon found himself in the Kingdom of Utah. Impressed with Sa idfil what he saw. he said to the Thunderbird. “This is the place.” The man could see that this was a beautiful place with much variety in the landscape, ranging from towering mountains to barren deserts. Most people of his kingdom were strongly influenced by their religious beliefs and strongly based in the opinions. Sir Talon was introduced, or rather, ran into a lively bunch of students who did everything from illustrating colorful posters to passing out orange and white suckers. These interesting peo- ple were known as the School Spirit Com mittee. Members of Timp’s school spirit were often seen wearing bright orange clothing and cheering loudly at all activities. Signs were everywhere with names of players on Sir Talon’s festival teams, and although success wasn’t always spelled correctly. He felt that homemaking and ser- vice were very important. Timpview had the Omega chapter of Fu- ture Homemakers of America. Omega was the largest club in the world in membership, the only club which was open to any student in high school. Many schools had all students holding membership. The National Headquarters for Omega were in Washington. D C. and the direc- tors worked closely with the U.S. Office of Education. Sir Talon admired the Omega members. 39 French Club inging, playing, and eating were the favorite activities of the German Club. A five- course German meal at Schoewald Terrace filled their tummies and broadened their hori- zons (they had to speak only in German!) During the spring they spent a few days at Clear Creek language camp. For Christmas a “tannenbaum” was decorat- ed with hand-strung popcorn and cran- berries (more popcorn was eaten than strung). He found the orchestra at Timpview an organization of mystique as evidenced by the following questions: Was it becoming acceptable to be in the orchestra? Could football players find a place in the orchestra and still be effec- tive on the grid-iron? Would the French horns ever get it right? (They were capa- ble of it any time, but who else was going to keep Mr Hill on his toes?) Was the famed prima donna section finally getting some prima don’s? Was it true that the orchestra won trophies too? Was there an orchestra dynasty going on at Timp- view? And last, but not least, did the bookstore really know that Timpview had a band and orchestra? Sir T. knew that answers would be found. Take it from the top fo the Hill 57 Officers: Jim Dixon, Ann Crowley.
