Roger Moore, National Coach of the Year, in action. WHAT IS DEBATE REALLY LIKE? We have two responses and an underview. I. DEBATE IS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE Subpoint A. Learning to act humble after verbally crushing an opponent. Subpoint B. Learning how to make up for your partner's blunders. Subpoint C. Learning how to succeed in spite of your coach. II. DEBATE IS A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE WITH OPPORTUNITIES EOR Subpoint A. Staying in some of the nation's most luxurious Motel 6's. Subpoint B. Dining in the elegant atmos- phere of McDonald's, Burger King and Sambo's. Subpoint C. Playing Erisbee coast to coast. An Underview: Debate is more than cutting cards, gluing evidence, filing, researching, refiling, flow- ing, and developing arguments; it is know- ing that winning isn't everything when you lose, but it's the only thing when you win. Hard work carried debaters coast to coast in search of forensics honors. 63

The Shandells provided not only great half-time entertainment, but also a good majority of the spirit at our games. I»l!ll.l TEAM Before the drill team even had a name, their officers were elected. To choose a name, each member suggested one, then voted. Shan- dells, suggested by Shelley Jack- man, is an Indian word meaning the best. The Shandells, under the direction of Rolayne Sims, marched at every home football and basketball game and were little sisters to the football and basketball players. They had fund- raisers to help pay for their uni- forms and they marched at half time at a BYU basketball game on December 9. We're proud of all the work they put forth in support- ing our teams and the enthusiasm they created. Dance Mistress. Drill Team Officers, right to left: Debbie Dixon, Activity Chairman; Stacy Ash, Drill Mistress; Natalie DeWolf, Secretary; Elizabeth Moore, Historian; Kami Apostel, President; Deon Blaser, Vice-President; joanna Billings, 65
