CHEERLE DER Barbara Demchak, Jeanne Orlando, Sophie Spilios, Alicia Vega, Eva Farelli, Darlene Dixon. Kneeling: Pat Kulich. The cheerleaders are a group of girls who somehow seem to keep spirits high, even when the going gets rough. Sometimes, the cheerleaders are not given enough credit for the good they do for the school and its spirit. At every game, you'Il find the cheerleaders out on the floor or field cheering on the fighting Troians. Their ability to whip up spirit cannot be underestimated. These girls are the link between the team and the spectators during games. They stick with the team with confidence even though sure defeat might be in view, But in victory or defeat, the cheerleaders show true Timken spirit, 5 Ah. if X il E ' ix ig 2 9 Qi .,... Second Row: On The Road To Fame was the mark of the 1959- 60 Timken Troian basketball team. ln the first game of the distinguished season the Troians were conspicuous in record breaking achievement as they trounced the visiting Akron Hower quintet 94-44. The old mark was against the Warren Panthers 91-7l. The Troymen displayed outstanding talent as four year letterman John Namciu buzzed the hoops for 37 counters. Dave Perry and Chuck Marcelli followed with Dick Mikes, Joe Pucci, John Namciu, Don Casor. Third Row: Mike Root, Bil-I Goldsworthy, Joe Lee. l6 and T2 points respectively. The second encounter found the Troians matching strength with the Akron North Vikings. Timken scrambled to a decisive 74-60 victory. The Troians quickly zipped to a 38-27 lead by halftime and led 52-44 at the third- quarter stop. The fourth quarter proved dismal to the Vikings as the Troians exploded for 22 points. Namciu spearheaded Timken for 27 bells as substitute Joe Lee dropped in l4 points. . 32- 5 S we Just! , ,- gg-...W . wi MM,-5 4-11' Q N xr ' ' udmwmn-nwwmfy, 1 , i My W6 W V, lm., .YV .F Mem , nk. KEN KATE, Head Coach Western Reserve was spanked as the Troians whipped lo victory on their first away game 59-37. The game was slow as Timken only led by a mere 20-12 score at halftime. Timken's famed press proved potent as it enabled many easy baskets. Namciu took game scoring laurels pumping in 26 points. Dick Mikes was John's main support in gathering ll points. The Blue Devils of Zanesville were pressed from victory as the Troymen sank 30 of 37 shots from the charity stripe to gain a 62-56 win. Dave Perry showed rough as he netted 2l points while Namciu and Marcelli hit l2 and ll points respectively. Columbus South was high but not high enough as the Troians copped a hard earned 59-4l count. The quarter stop favored South l l-8 as Timken gained forces to roar to a 25-22 lead by halftime. The Troians then ran and couldn't be stopped. Mikes bent the hoops for l7 points with Namciu spilling l5. Lady Luck smiled down on the Troians when the Troymen completely disabled Upper Sandusky as Tim- ken rumbled to an overpowering 74-35 score. Namciu rang the bell 35 times to take game scoring honors. Football tactics took over as Timken out fought Sandy Valley Cardinals in a rough and tumble 75-50 win. A parade to the free throw line was in order as 47 fouls were called, 30 against Timken as 18 to Sandy Valley. Namciu again won scoring honors pouring in 34 points. REGIQNAL . . . Each Lead- er is required to take a series of tests, written and practical, before she becomes eligible for membership. During the year, the girls excel in many activi- ties, one of the most important being the Blue- Gold game. An annual picnic ends the year's events, serving as an initiation for new leaders and a farewell to the graduating leaders.
