Marilyn was crowned in an elaborate ceremony, a tradition to which all students look forward. The Varsity football team each year selects ten girls whom they think deserve the honor of reigning as Timken's Football Queen. From these ten girls, the Senior Class chooses five finalists. A whirlwind campaign follows, complete with beautiful posters. At the annual school elections, the Senior, Junior, and Sophomore Classes vote for the girl whom they wish to be queen. However, the queen's name is not re- vealed until coronation day. Marylin is maioring in the Secretarial course. Timken wasted little time in getting to paydirt as Walt Robart ripped around left end for the score on the fourth play from scrimmage. Joe Valko then showed his record breaking talents by connecting with 4 touchdown passes to climax a perfect evening. The second battle of the season showed Timken edging the mighty New Philadelphia Quakers, 6-O. Valko again was the big gun, as he broke loose for 42 yards into paydirt for the game's only score. Timken iust couldn't stop the powerful Salem eleven as the Quakers rolled over the Troians' first after winning two straight. The Troians downed the Dover eleven in a power fighting l3-7 decision. Valko connected with end Ron Nolte, and this play highlighted a 70-yard touchdown drive for the first score of the game. The Troians climaxed the game when Valko blocked a punt and Tom Bible scooped up the ball and ran into the end zone for the score. The Central Catholic Crusaders proved to be a little too powerful for the Troians as the final score of 22-l 4 shows. John Namciu was the man to watch as he scored all of Timken's points in certainly the most inter- esting game ofthe season. The Timken Troians were their own worst enemy as they tied the powerful and undefeated Carrollton Warriors, 6-6. Carr plows for a short goin against Dover. Timken came roaring back and in five plays tied the contest at 6-6. Walt Robart legged it to the Warriors' two and then plowed over on the following play into paydirt for the score. Joe Valko saved the day when he pulled his teame mates together, and in the last four minutes scored two quick touchdowns to triumph over Lehman, T6-6. Valko barreled his way from the one-yard stripe for Timken's first score. Then in about three minutes Timken steamrolled for another score as end .loe Lee caught a Valko pass in the end zone. Timken showed Ravenna who was boss, as they plowed through the Ravenna crew, 33-6. Valko tossed to end Joe Lee for the Trojans' first score and then to Robart for two other scores. Two more scores were bounced as Myron Fritz scrambled through the middle to highlight Timken's offensive. Timken lost its third game, T5-6 to a powerhouse from Lincoln. Joe Valko set a new school record by completing a 33 yard pass to fullback Myron Fritz. lt was a real heartbreaker to lose the homecoming game, but this year's team was of high spirit and gave us all something to remember. 1 - gg ,. Against Warren, Namciu spearheaded the Troy- men to victory as he slashed the nets for 24 points. The Trojans glided to an easy 64-45 victory. The last game of the season found the Trojans on the short end as the Bulldogs fled to victory for an easy 62-56 count. continued Coach Kenneth Kate's famed full-court press proved to be effective as the Trojans jumped to an interesting T4-4 season. Timken opened by squeezing past Akron Hower, 39-32 and continued to battle for their second straight victory by trouncing Western Reserve Acad- emy 57-32. Namciu led the scoring parade with 24 markers. The Trojans lost a heart-breaker to the Lions by a 49-36 count. Namciu was the only Trojan to hit double figures, sinking a mere 10 points. Timken came Smiling through after slicing Dayton Stivers, 66-57. Dayton was rated one of the top teams in the area, until chopped down by the Timkenites. The Blue Devils of Zanesville, state's semi-finalists last year, had won 22 games in a row before being buried by the Troymen, 60-43. The Trojans had little to cope with as they trounced Jackson, 67-46. Cleveland John Adams was no match and was rolled over by Timken, 69-47. Lehman ended Timken's winning streak by up- setting the Trojans by a 67-58 count. This was the Trojans second loss to city rivals. Timken was back on the winning road as they shattered Kent 69-38 and didn't stop as they rolled by a tough Ravenna five, 63-50. The Trojans edged Sandy Valley for their third straight win, by a 49-44 count, and Akron North was held breathless from the beating by the Trojans at 63-49.
