Fulton Lezcix, nationally lfnozun radio comnzentator, addrersed the student bodyofT1'mlfm1 Vocational High School. It is customary at important assemblies for the students to rise and reeite the Creed. Upon hearing the recitation of the school Creed, Mr. Lewis was so impressed by the beauty of it that he congratulated the school for such a splendid aceomplishment. On his nation-wide broadcast that evening, Mr. Lewis read the Creed over the air and explained that it had been written by the students. ' Then the mail began to pour in! Many people asked for copies so that they might reprint or present the Creed before special groups. These compli- mentary comments from listeners all over the country gave us, ourselves, a new appreciation of the Creed. The Creed of Timken Vocational High School I pledge to develop a deeper appreciation of myself, my school, my country, and my Creator. I believe in myself. I must have the Confi- dence to pursue successfully my vocation and to attain my goal in life. I believe in my school. It provides the op- portunity to acquire the skills of my vocation, the knowledge to earn my living, and the Culture to teach me how to live. I believe in my eountry. America has made available to man the worldls greatest bulwark of freedom. I pledge to keep it so. I believe in a Supreme Being. Lifc's gifts and privileges are ultimately derived from God. Without faith I will perish. I pledge to uphold these ideals. I will re- spect myself and obey the regulations of my school, the laws of my country, and the com- mandments of my Creator. This is my Creed. 70 A I-----up-gi'l 4 ' was 'QI ff- -- I f v , QM' 1 I .A 4., 5 I, 1 i 1 if 1 X , R , 1. , . , ' V V . Varsity Football Lincoln 0 - Timken 0 In the initial encounter of the 151 season, care- less ball handling on the part of both squads pre- vented any scoring as the teams fought to a score- less deadlock. Ashtabula 7 - Timken 7 The Panthers put on a desperate aerial attack in the fourth quarter to hold the Timkenites to a 7 - 7 stalemate. Timken scored its touchdown in the opening minutes of the game in the person of Clyde Wernecke, with Rambaud dashing over for the extra point. McKinley 13 - Timken 19 After 11 years of hope for victory over the Bull- dogs, a spirited Trojan squad set down the stag- gering Bulldogs, 19-13. John Hiben, in his initial assignment, passed 9 complete tosses out of 15 at- tempts to lead the Trojans to victory. Ben Ram- baud's running in this game was commendable. New Philadelphia 12 - Timken 18 In scoring one T D in the lst quarter and 2 in the third, the Trojans resorted to defense and defeated the New Philly Quakers. The losers scored six-pointers in the lst and 3rd quarters. Timken 0 an ' 22 0 I 7 6 Timken ' 19 6 6 12 0 0 Girard 12 - Timken 6 The Trojans literally pushed the Indians all over Fawcett Stadium but lacked scoring punch as Timken bowed before the Girard eleven, 12-6. Salem 25 - Timken 20 j Allowing the Quakers a 25-7 third period margin, the Timkenites fought desperately to come from behind, but fell short of a 25-20 verdict. John Hiben completed 15 of 30 passes. The outstanding play of the game was a 99-yard run by Salemis Nelson Mellinger in the third period. Lehman 14 - Timken 7 In the battle for the city championship, the Trojans lost to the Hilltoppers in a very tactful game. The winners scored in the second and third quarters while Timken scored its lone tally in the fourth period. East Liverpool 21 - Timken 13 In the game that climaxed the football season for 1951, the Vocationalists were handed a 21-13 reversal by a strong and spirited Liverpool eleven. The Potters scored twice in the second period and once in the third, while the Troymen scored single 6-pointers in each of the last 2 quarters.
