Guidance and Adult Education Mrs. Alice Voges, freshman counselor, and Miss Esther Chapman, head of the Guid- ance Department, work to- gether to guide and help solve problems of students. Mr. Richard Larsen served as head of the adult education center for district 9 as well as head public relations man. Mr. Larsen was also part time faculty, teaching several classes of French. ee oem « u NN Mrs. Jean Bailey, secretary of the Guidance Office, and Mr. Don Whitney, boys’ counselor, are also part of the Guidance Office staff.

ee Board of Education One of the really strong aspects of American education is the close touch that the schools have with the people of the community. This closeness is insured by the system used in this country of structuring the educational plan with elected represen- tatives of the citizens at the head of all activities which com- prise the schooling. These representatives, the Board of Educa- tion, see to it that the proper personnel is on hand to staff the schools and that buildings and equipment for their use is pro- vided. Tillamook's District 9 has prided itself for years on the dedication of its Board of Education and this pride continued for the current year. Chairmanned by Karl Zweifel, shown at left, the five members saw the school year through successfully. Always looking for the best education possible, they encouraged experimentation with new trends while urging continued use of good plans carried over from the past. They urged that Superin- tendent John Jensen take part in the visit to European schools and permitted his release for the six weeks of his absence. A contented staff and an efficiently educated group of students attested well to the success of local leaders shown on this page. Home of the Mooks Tillamook High School is, of course, the‘‘Home of the Mooks,’’ an alterante name for the Cheesemakers, the official name of our athletic teams. The 1965 Kilchis has used a cartoon representation of the THS Cheesemaker, and proudly called him the ’65 MOOK, This MOOK became our symbol of the faculty, the students, the activitities, and the athletics. He is the symbolic SPIRIT of Tillamook High School, so evident in its athletic contests and the enthusiasm of students, faculty, and administration, Our MOOK, then, would like to introduce you to our 1965 Kilchis.
