The Class of 49 started tht ir yt ar with election of officers. After holding this it was dccidtd to have 1 general ch'1irman for the Sophomore Initiation. 'ickie lfest was elected to fill this position: then selected those who were to serve on her committee. Among their group the uniors had some ol whom tht y were vary proud. They were: Don Rarey, Lois Schmidt, Barh'1r'x Kidd, Shirley Ahratus. o Ann Swett ackie West. Dorothy Sohrweid. and Avy Zuercher: all initiattd into the Philokalon Honor Society. e 1 Bride ? At ply to tht lu iors. They have thtm 'tt '1 Batgfn . The play Bargain Bride was presented March fourth and fifth. Sufticient fund: to sponsor the Prom were raised. The evening of April 23. l948. was the tuniors big moment. That s right! It was the evening of the unior-Senior Banquet 'ind Prom. Don Rarey, the newly elected president for the second semester appointed several chairmen to fill the many duties that were required to be done in order that the evening he a successful one. They were: Decorations. Barbara Kidd: Hall. Doris White: Program. ackic West: Election. Helen Neimann: Dance Barbara Cocanower. The theme for this year was Skyline and the Wilson School auditorium and Townsend Hall were very attractively decorated. During the course of the evening the Queen and her court were escorted to the throne where Don Rarey crowned the Queen. At the time of this writing, it was a: yet undecided whether the xuniors or Sophomores would decorate for Conuneneeruent or Baccalaureate.

Their year began with a hilarious initiation giw en by the privileged upper-classxnen. Surviv- ing this they entertained the student body with a class assembly. Enjoying, success in these ventures they gathered together for a Sophomore Class Party. Then as an enjoyable climax for their year they sponsored a fre shman-sophomore dance to get acquainted with next year s newcomers. Between class activities the sophs produced some outstanding athletes! musicians and artists. The girls all-star basketball team included three sophomores- Bonnie White .ohnetta Burbank and Carol Leekinqton. Sustaining the class honor as badminton champs were oyce Gabriel and Suzanne Palmer. The all-star volley ball te am numbered LaVerne Bahm Libby Briscoe Bonnie Vlhite ohnetta Burbank and Phyletha Haron. Six sophomores were prominent football players-Bud and Marshall Con- ard. Diek Cary Dorence Noteboom Ted aeobs and Melvin Kimmel. The elass basketball players were Bud Conard Marshall Conard Dore nee Note boom. Harvey Nladding and Ce ne Williams. Leading class musicians were Don Adamson. trombone and piano: Cliff Fbert. saxaphone: I arry VVilson. saxaphone: and the popular girls quintet eanine Earl. Drusilla Hughson. Barbara Neiger. I aniee Crenshaw and Suzanne Palmer. ae- eompanied by l oyee Gabriel. Talented artists who proved their skill with play posters and cartoons were Ken Squier. Diek Rosin. Suzanne Palmer and LaVonna Smith. A together. the soph: had a good year. They quiekly adjufted themselvex to high school life and enjoyed their first year at Tilla Hi.
